for me it's starsailor. go on, call me gay.
what are yours?
I'd say...Counting Crows. Everyone I know hates them.
every time i hear them slaughtering big yellow taxi i want to murder them
ickle bickle little kids playing their songs on whiney pianos and untuned guitars.
don't even get me started on their singing.
Are Steely Dan uncool? Or really really cool? Either way I love them.
Also non-post punk 'edgy' era Scritti Politti too. And Robert Palmer as well as, of course, Hall & Oates. Talk about a great best-of!
by the facial expressions of my cooler friends when I'm playing the Dan in my car. Shame.
in Knocked Up when I saw it at the cinema :/
Steely Dan and Hall & Oates are two of the most obvious iro-cool bands I can think of. See also Fleetwood Mac.
set it up set it up set it up set it up set it up set it up
set it up again set it up again set it up again set it up again
Absolute rubbish, but I love it too
By a country mile.
I think Muse are cool. Does this make me uncool?
Join the club.
Only me and the fellas in my band think they're cool :(
....I doubt that's true.
they have really good b-sides too.
That said, stuff like Planet of Weed is a pile of shit and I can see why most people think they're a joke.
actually, to most people, saying that you like a band called Animal Collective will probably just get you laughed at
such as ACDC (not sure if they are cool now due to the ironic Hoxton lot), Whitesnake, Zodiac Mindwarp, The Cult, Van Halen, Wildhearts, Springsteen ( is he cool now too cos of the Hoxton set?), Coldplay, U2....where do i start?!! Animal Collective - i thought they were decidely cool and one of the darlings of DiS?
Not all their stuff, but their second record is superb.
So there you go...
especially the early stuff
you can trip, you can trip.
I'M A MAN, AND I'M TORN BETWEEN VENGEANCE AND FASHION!
im extremely happy as i thought i sold them on ebay
I hope you've been giving out the order for fun.
in the middle of the street
but sometimes i listen to the riverdance soundtrack.
Oh, and Foals.
and fall out boy and my chemical romance i suppose
in my book.
dinner probably have to consist of a starter of mead, a main course of liberty caps and tea and a dessert? idk, your treat.
might go see them in November.
Pearl Jam? They're my favourite band, too.
The fact that I still have You Know My Name by Chris Cornell in my top 5 most listened tracks on last.fm; something that came back to haunt me on my DiS debut...
Arctic Monkeys are fucking righteous, but the backlash saw to that I think...
Arctics and Pearl Jam????
man, dis really hates them (except for a few people). also Skunk Anansie and I have a massive soft spot for Kosheen's first album.
Not sure if people's complaints of them would be that they're uncool. I'm not sure if I can think of anybody I like whom is uncool, they're probably are ones (Grandmaster flash definately isnt cool anymore lol although I guess we was when the message came out), but most artists I like I think are cool so i'm not the best judge. B.B King maybe? Or Billie Holiday? Best ones I can think up.
pretty uncool, certainly round these parts at least. But meh, who really gives a shit? everyone knows actively trying to be cool is massively counter productive.
there are more of us.
elastica (britpop sucks)
if there's 2 of us who admit that it no longer makes it uncool.
for mega-chin frischmann
... You realise that even those who sneer at Britpop concede that Elastica were blisteringly cool?
As were sleeper. So there.
..mainly neon ballroom and diorama.
The opening track to diorama is the most uncool track ever made.
the first track on diorama is the most uncool song ever.
You're no fan...
coldplay, snow patrol, jose gonzalez, placebo, damien rice
Foals and Black Kids (not all their stuff but some of it is annoyingly catchy).
I thought they were tolerated in these parts.
stuff like that :(
also U2, Coldplay (early years), Blancmange, Tears for Fears (80s years), Supertramp, 10cc.. the list goes on.
dont judge me
Some of their stuff anyway.
I still love the first Kaiser Chiefs album. That's probably more nostalgia than anything though.
He didn't ask you to admit to liking two of literally the all-time worst things to happen to popular music ever.
but he is right
I don't really know what's considered cool and what isn't anymore.
or Kaiser chiefs or Muse or NIN
not sure, Im pretty uncool !
Grizzly bear or the books would have to be the most uncool bands I like
but uncool is cool on DIS
right guys RIGHT
i really like saves the day
i find it tolerable and the guitar work excellent
i prefer the first album above anything else but i really like the rest of their stuff too.
Crash Test Dummies would be mine.
Although i don't really think of music as cool or uncool.
I mean REALLY. I'm speaking as a long-sleeve t-shirt owning signed kill your television 12" possessing fan. They aren't cool. At all.
p.s See you at Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall! :p
Dashboard Confessional are pretty looked down on.
motherfucker. And I'm not even sorry.
I quite like some of their stuff
and they're well good live. Yeah! I'm well increasing my DiS credibility right now!
It's also really lame to like a band thinking they're uncool. HO CAREZ!?
but aw man that voice
Have you seen 40-Year-Old Virgin. There is a brilliant running joke that the manager of the TV store insists on having a Michael McDonald live video running at all times. None of my friends could understand why I was cracking up so much whenever he popped up in the background.
What A Fool Believes, Sweet Freedon, I Keep Forgetting, On My Own, Minute By Minute - classics all.
I heard him and suddenly I realised where Gene Ween got his ridiculous soul voice from. This is niche entertainment but here's Sweet Freedom at 33rpm instead of 45rpm.
I heard it on internets radio and it really cracked me up. It's even more tropical slowed down.
like quite a few simply red songs as well
don't think there's anything that uncool about coldplay really, if anything elastica are cool
*with huge reservations about their post-Pop work.
That said, I will defend the overblown American-influenced stadium rock days of the Joshua Tree/Rattle&Hum era all day.
Especially the first 3 albums. They will never leave me.
i like them but they get alot of stick
I win at losing. ('How We Operate' is particularly great.)
Gomez are fucking awesome. How We Operate is a beautiful album.
I like a lot.
Sylvia's Mother is flames.
An 'un' is missing from there somewhere...
and Rick James !!
I really really used to like them. peace sells but who's buying...
to my friends and what people on here find uncool are complete polar opposites, I sent my friend For Reverend Green by Animal Collective just randomly he was shocked and said they sounded ridiculous and were complete wank. To him they were decidely uncool, I like Death Cab For Cutie and Bright Eyes an awful lot, I thinks thats probably uncool to large swathes of Dis ( and probably 99%) of my friends too.
everything's kind of in the eye of the beholder, right?
To some people The Ting Tings are the height of cool. That makes me very sad.
hold on...me too. :-(
fuck you hipsters
I guess they're more "old" than uncool......Shheesh who cares...
Death Cab never seem to get much praise on these boards (so must be uncool)....I love 'em.
but I do like a lot of Keane songs, the shame!
if you like "a lot", yeah?
I'll admit to liking a couple of the songs from their first album, if that makes you feel better :)
I also like Kula Shaker and Dido.
I'm not ashamed.
so shut it fuckface
Gwar are mighty!!Noone who sees them live can ever doubt their awesomeness again. So it is written.
The Blue Nile anyone?..
Yeah I said it.
there subsequent albums are diabolical.
Absolutely love 'em; with no sense of irony!
i don't think they've ever been seen as uncool. at least not in my eyes.
Man I dig that shit!
they dont deserve to amongst that pile of cack
GET THE FUNK OUT
even with the people who claim to be into the classics
Definately not cool though! One of my work mates was talking to me a while ago about the only leeds festival he went to was headlined by them. So they might've been cool back in the day??
I know they were cool for abit but with their last 4 albums they seemed determined to change that, I wouldnt dream of wearing one of my many weezer T's outside the house
My Weezer hoody is still worn with pride.
1996: Consider a bit lame in a green day kinda way
1997 -2000: Word got out pinkerton was actual amazing, cool again to those in the know
Post green album: once the goodwill of really wanting them to comeback wore off and reality set in: uncool
that Wezzer have reverted back to being cool again, that's how it works. Am I right, am I right? etc.
My video used to be on their myspace, until they got a proper one.
not cool, but fucking amazing!
- probably now totally fogotten by most, but not by me
A Place in the Sun.
Ziplock, Miserable and of course Own Worst Enemy all still great.
i remember bopping about to my own worst enemy as a kid
I lived in a flat in with a highly polished floor and I recall coming to grief bopping to Ziplock - fell straight on my cockix
i seem to have stuck with them, there's a couple of songs on each album that gets me hook line and sinker, i can't help it.
I know it's dirty, i know it's wrong - but by god if "Last Summer" isn't one of my favorite songs to listen to.
& there's probably others...
Sometimes, occasionally, I like to go back to my 10-12 year old days and bring out some Savage Garden. Haha...I should not be admitting this here. :x
Hall and Oates
Been gettin hopelessly into them lately after hating them all through adolsence.
They're one of those bands who haven't got one great album to their name, but if you take the cream from each of their LP's you can cobble one together.
the first one.
let it all out, go on.
really gives us some insight.
freddie mercury was kick ass maaaaannnnnn!!!!!
The Arcade Fire
both would be "uncool". Tee hee.
Also Placebo (all of their albums, not just the first one, because i think liking that is acceptable in indieland)
Thousand Yard Stare
Ned's Atomic Dustbin
Kitchens of Distinction
Cold War kids
Tapes n Tapes
Late of the Pier
come on, try harder!
too many people think they're 'cool', which makes them instantly uncool.
to choose but a few:
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Add me to the gang of people that like Kula Shaker as well...
To name but a few....
they suck da balls
viva la vida is brilliant
John Frusciante is genius!
nothing I listen to has been critically embraced (well apart from The Smiths perhaps)but I don't care, its the music I like and I bet Whitesnake or AC/DC are a much fucking more enjoyable and entertaining night out than 99% of the bands that get amazing reviews in the NME or this place
Both I genuinely enjoy, both have been ruined by being bought by EVERYONE and getting lumped in with James Blunt-esque singer songwriters who's cd you can pick up in Tesco.
I'm nota big fan or anythign, but i do have their first album and I have to admit that I quite like...
Ok, ban me from this site.
David Devant & His Spirit Wife
My Life Story
Pop Will Eat Itself
To name but a few.
except Bloc Party (who have moments) but are all of them strictly uncool? Iron Maiden for instance have sparked a renaissance of band t-shirt wearing with hipsters wearing Made In England Ts? I know White Lies are slated here but I like them and think their album is ace.
Really? I presumed given the acceptance of Nowhere as one of the albums of the 90's they were beyond this 'coolness' scale
if this appears twice don't blame me.
Genesis (Peter Gabriel era)
Sisters of Mercy
and many more but I can't remember what I wrote when I posted it before.
Is there any obvious reason that I don't know 'cause I don't live in UK?
it's just a fact. they're not exacteky cool, you know.
well, yes. They're a bit peculiar and geeky if that's what you mean.
Just thought being in NME favorite list makes you uncool. And that would actually make sense on some occasions.
they're trying too hard to be cool. either you are cool or you aren't. trying hard to be cool is in itself extremely uncool.
Not even his fans like him anymore, that's how uncool he is.
I'm not a HUGE fan, but I just heard No Regrets on the radio, with it's Portisheady outro and backing vocals by the two Neils, Hannon and Tennant, and remembered how ace it was. I had the album, I've Been Expecting You, and rather good it was too. I even quite liked Rudebox.
I was also a little bit obsessed by the New Radicals around the same time. They can't possibly be cool, but they are pretty ace.
the song inside on the Levi advert is amazing!!
Inside! ah that takes me back!
I even like Islands in the Stream
when i was only a couple of months old.
i guess he kick-started my music obsession.
c'mon James, got a soft spot for a bit of Phil Collins? you can tell us.
For me: Are the manics uncool enough to count?
and Fountains of Wayne.
I'm going to see them in June, I am so blimming excited.
Tears for Fears (earlier stuff)
for me, it's obviously britney spears and madonna.
How do I know which bands are cool or not?
they are an extremely uncool bunch.
the opening band whoever they were weren't, mocked the audience for not moshing and made some sarky comment about the diy scene
Because I bloody love The Killers.
Pretty much my favourite band. My friends think I'm scum. I guess I am.
I quite like them too.:-) I think they're pretty cool though.
is a great album. I wouldn't have said they were particularly uncool either though
The Man Who is still a damn good album.
Also, The Killers.
There. I said it.
panic! at the disco, the scene aesthetic, most nu-metal bands, the teenagers, zolof and fall out boy
