the thursday album is the only 'new' album i've bought this year
what 'must haves' am i missing out on?
Antony and the Johnsons is one of my favorites so far.
Mono- Hymn To The Immortal Wind
Wildbirds and Peacedrums- The Snake
Harlem Shakes- Technicolour Health
Handsome Furs- Face Control
Fever Ray- Fever Ray
Bell Orchestre- As Seen Through Windows
N.A.S.A- The Spirit of Apollo
The Joy Formidable- A Balloon Called Moaning
citizenmeh, what does the Fever Ray album sound like? Is it more like The Knife, or Honey is Cool?
but it does sound a lot like The Knife's "Silent Shout."
Pagan Wanderer Lu - Fight My Battles For Me
a real physical release in real shops?
School of seven bells
Empire Of The Sun
Antony and the Johnsons, Bat for Lashes, Neko Case, Cursive.
yes. but also PNAU yer man's OTHER band. actually thats from 2008 but hey.
although don't bother if you're not a fan of their previous work
The Deer Tracks album is out next week and an absolute corker if you dig M83/Mum type beauty...
Checkmate Savage by The Phantom Band is worth checking out. Same for the Antony and the Johnsons album.
bibio - vignetting the compost
malajube - labyrinthes
The Hunches - Exit Dreams
The Strange Boys - And Girls Club
Ignore the eejit who said Bromst
John Frusciante is quite good too
really really good I reckon.
I love the Knife, but the Fever Ray is absolutely weak IMO. I give it a 5/10. What do you like about it? I am genuinely curious. I was so disappointed in that album.
Bromst is fucking spectacular.
seconding that then
quality warm and hazey hip-hop beats, with a really deep and soulful vibe to it. If you have been playing Flying Lotus a bit to much and want something else then Lukid is for you.
Harmonic 313 - When Machines Exceed Human Intelligence
More off-killter hip-hop but this time with a more robotic, retro feel a bit like being transported back in time to a block party in Detroit in the 80s when hip-hop / electro / techno all met.
Durrty Goodz - Ultrasound
Quality grime mix cd / pre-album with massive instrumentals from Nocturnal, Griminal, Joker and Taz Buckfaster to name bu ta few. Goodz is kinda on form here, not quite up to the sublime standars of Axiom EP but fuckin solid all the same.
Lloop - 60 Hertz
Excelent dubbed out dancehall tracks via a New York wearhouse party.
The Village Orchestra - Dark Is Rising
really beautiful techno meets IDM meets dubby stuff, its so hypnotic and... well. Brilliant!
There is probibly more, this is just off the top of my head and I've not really woken up yet.
Lloop - 60 Hertz - this is incredible. Lei-Tzu is aces.
Alva Noto - Xerrox II (deep deep Sunn-O))) sampling trance fuzz of the un-metal kind)
A Death Cinematic - Parable On The Aporia Of Vengeance And The Beauty Of Impenetrable Sadness (though that was right at the very end of December - far too intense to listen to all the way through solo effected guitar)
Fauna - Rain (plashy splashy BM buzz)
Wormsblood - Mastery of Creation (seriously, this is some warped black-metal jiggery deviance right here!)
Adam Lygo - King Of Ravens EP (as ever with Adam, immense, blindingly intense guitarscapes of harrowing emotion)
ihopeyousuffer - Gold, Oil And Drugs (chainsaw vs. drummachine post rock - free download: http://www.archive.org/details/GoldOilAndDrugs)
other records people have mentioned here that I 2nd/3rd....
Fever Ray - Fever Ray (yup, really pretty and involving)
Action Beat - The Noise Band From Bletchley(real band. real album. real noise)
Bibio - Vignetting The Compost (sublime junkyard folktonica ...?)
Mountains - Choral (Thrill Jocky on High Places top form, but denser and less tropical!)
i might go for that
These Are Powers - All Aboard Future
Gregor Samsa - Over Air
Jonquil - Whistle Low EP
Enablers - Tundra
Miacachu & The Shapes, Jewellery
but so far, Mountains' new album Choral is rather marvellous if you like nice organic sounding drones and electronics and acoustic guitar. If not it's shit.
is pretty much as perfect a pop record as I'm going to be expecting from this year. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart's album is a close second.
