I'll be honest, i love this band. I really don;t think much of the song :(
Good but I have 2 criticisms:
1) It's too long.
2) It sounds too much like the Young Knives for my liking.
compared to some of the new material they were playing last year.
more people in pubs should have iguanas.
anyone who visited the ferryboat knows that lizards and pubs = shit.
No comment on the song, i'll pretend it doesn't exist i think.
It's filmed in one of the oldest pubs in Cardiff, it's getting knocked down soon so they can build a carpark for the new John Lewis. Progress!
But, after initially despising this track, have grown to like it a lot after a fair few plays on their myspace page. I think that the newer tracks on LNISHFVampires are all better than it to be honest, but I think its the equivalent of mcluskys' 'She will only bring you happiness'.
Its probably the track that will get most casual listeners into the band, and one of the ones most of their already established fanbase will tend to not like as much.
It's definitely a grower.
And I actually quite like the video, but I do agree with a comment made up there; the band deserve better televisual support and this does lack a bit of a point. Having said that, when was the last a music video blew you away anyhow?
Oh, so, the best thing they've ever done?
It's got that bouncy bass and the 'angular' thing going on at the very least.
OK it is just me. I'm scared to go to see FOTL live now. HE WILL KNOW IT WAS ME.
"Oh, and by the way, the next person, male or female, who accosts me at a show, incredulous at our lack of success then tells me that they illegally downloaded all of our music gets punched squarely in the tits. No exceptions. Be a feckless, short-sighted fucking thief all you like but self-righteous hypocrites with no sense of the absurd are valid, vapid targets." !!!
"how come we have to wait so long for you to tour? Why don't you record your albums faster? Yeah, of course I 'torrented' it...." D'oh.
love this band and i love this song
when will they tour?
Bearing in mind the LP is being finished for that festival time, and the fact that the label would be mental not to support it with given that they seemingly pulled the last series of shows.
after reading Falco's blog. I'll give the new tune another go. It doesn;t sound like Young Knives. I like Young Knives anyway, but it doesn;t sound like that at all. Ithink that riled him him.
On the point of illegally downloading their stuff. it's a good way of people finding out about their music and coming to see them live (they bought a ticket) but in the long run they should be the bloody cds. I have. I spent a fortuine on Mclusky (now FOTL).
I can see why someone might have thought it's a bit Young Knives-ish from a pace point of view (its not the snappy 'hit' we expect from FOTL, which is conversely why I think its good they released it now) and also the video being shot in that greyed out, stylised British look.
It's a real grower mind. And even if you don't like it, loads of the new stuff sounds ace so I wouldn't worry...
Nowt wrong with that. The song just didn;t catch me really. I am willing to give it another go. I remember thinking Mclusky 'That Man Will Not Hang' wasnt that great when it came out and in the context of the album it made me love it, so yeah.
I can see why Falco gets frustrated though, DiS boards are very negative sometimes towards stuff.
They generally are.
But that's because 90% of the stuff talked about on here is shit.
(This is where I'd do a smiley face thing IF I ever allowed myself to use such things)
it's also alot easier to criticise something than actually find what's good about it. It's human nature i guess to look for the negatives!
I blame the credit crunch (insert winky face)
I just thought I'd let you all know this fact...
the b-side 'I have 4 names' I think it's called. Great stuff. Now please re-record 'March of the Coupon Saints' as well as playing it live every now and then.
Is it actually out now then? I'm still relying on youtube!
If you've never heard it before, I'd recommend hunting down 'Stick to what you slip' (demo) too. They never used it in the end but I love it...
is on spotify.
we'll have a word with them at ULU, tell them to get their house in order and actually play their best songs. Obvious, large saftey wink inserted here...
which has been my source, haven't got the single (yet).
Fucking bands, what do they know! Good B-side this btw....
I got my tickets for the ULU date this week actually. Nick's coming along again too. So maybe pre-gig drinks should be organised near the day...
speak nearer the time.
