"My Year in Lists" is possibly my track of 2008.
Lots 'o' bands have gone on despite drug problems. Hopefully he'll clean up, though.
people on drugs make better music
hahaha, i actually can't image it
solvents in it.
Just OK. I honestly can't tell the difference between them and Johnny Foreigner.
I don't know if that's good or not.
Los Campesinos! is like Johnny Foreigner with slightly more talent, and far more people. Love them both.
I mean I can tell the difference between the two bands but there's clearly similarities between the two in a way that there aren't between Kings of Leon and Right Said Fred.
I'd grant you that it's a bit like saying "I can't tell the difference between the Sex Pistols and the Ramones" though.
More like the Dead Kennedys and The Ramones, to be more accurate.
If it sounds great you're listening to Johnny Foreigner.
If it sounds fucking horrendous you're listening to Los Campesinos!.
Works for me.
male/female vocal interplay.
Something about the whole feel of the music just sounds similar to me. I also heard of them both 'round the same time so I kind of relate them that way. Maybe it's just me. They are quite different, however.
You're too close to it. Just because you can hear subtle differences doesn't mean they aren't very similar.
but I imagine it would be very enjoyable.
I'll be working on this. I'll tell you what it's like.
I seriously started humming a Johnny Foreigner song in the middle of Hold On Now, Youngster and didn't realize I was doing it for at least a few seconds.
he is tha bomb
but I can't help but cringe at song titles like ''Don't Tell Me To Do The Math(S)' or 'Knee Deep at ATP' or '2007, The Year Punk Broke (My Heart).' I'm sorry.
I really like it incidentally. But I still agree the title's a bit cloying.
Though how much any genre can self-parody is questionable...
You! Me! Dancing! makes me feel like a 15 year old, and I think I heard it when I was 17 so have no idea how that works but it's certainly some sort of exciting black magic.
it just makes me think of the stereotypical, social outcast DiS dweller- crippled with self loathing and insecurity yet made even the more unlikeable by his awful superiority/entitlement complex derived entirely from his oh-so-unique knowledge of early 90s guitar bands. yeah man we get it, you use bands as a substitute for personality because you're an unlikeable dork blah blah blah. this band would be approx. 10000x more tolerable if they weren't all terrible nerd-come-good/nerd-revenge tales.
"Broken down like a war economy, for the Fuhrer, don't be mad at me." Good lyric. And "Beware, the sign on the door suggests I'm better off with artificial intelligence". I'd probably be able to think of more if I still listened to them. Gareth has a great way with words.
father fuhrer, no?
In that case, they're shit.
Also, why does the thread title have american grammar? 'Is'? Apologies to Ozymandias if you're American - You probably already call gigs shows, and that's punishment enough.
they're pretty much unbearable. it's way too knowing to be 'fun'.
and sung in a bad beat poet style.
if I listen to them I have to blank out the lyrics, voices, production and general shrillness. If I manage to do that though it's alright for a couple of minuets. Theres is the only gig I have walked out of because of bordom, the lure of an earlyer train and some chips was alot larger than staying and hearing them. If I was 12 again I'd probibly love um tho and I did enjoy the first album for a few weeks.
but they'd be better without theTHE stupidSTUPID! femaleFEMALE!! vocalsVOCALS!! behindBEHIND! garethsGARETHS!!!
they make me feel like they'll rot my teeth.
I love everything about LC! apart from those vox. I always imagine her singing "i'm so twee, so all the boys will love me, I'm going to buy a pot for my tea". Silly really.
go straight through me. My mates like them, but I cannot listen to them. Also, I thought they sounded like Johnny Foreigner.
i can barely make it through one of their songs without turning it off.....
