Can't stop listening to this at the moment. So much fun
If it's not I'll be sorely disappointed.
It's Zomby's rather excellent rave-tribute album, complete with cheesy air raid sirens, chopped up vocals, and bleeps aplenty.
It's also great fun. I was really surprised when Animal Collective played it over the PA before their gig at Koko, but apparently they're big Zomby fans.
His recent stuff on Ramp is great as well - The Lie is an amazing tune. Not exactly ravey but with an excellent sample.
keep that magnum of sore disappointment on ice for the time being Bamos!
I might try and find this in my local record emporium.
I want a CD release of all these vinyl EPs and things cos I don't like stealing music or paying for downloads and I'm too lazy to listen to vinyl enough.
I've just been listening to Zombi
did you get Surface To Air? I've really got back into that after not listening to it for over a year or so.
basically cos of the name. Space is the place
not heard that one. Think my might cousin might have it actually, might need to borrow it for a spin.
but I just decided to bite the bullet and start buying the stuff I wanted on vinyl. Only to find myself with a pretty serious vinyl habit and a couple of hundred quid down...
Worth it if you be bothered, but it would be good to get actual CD releases of some things. A Hyperdub 12" compilation for example, that would be lovely.
as I'm missing a bunch of them. as NSFW says, his release rate currently is nuts, I can't keep up without making HSBC hate me more than they already do
I can see why the purists would be against this kind of thing. But surely worth cashing in on the uncool bandwagon-jumpers like me?
It's probably not bang up to date but the Zomby EP is on there, and Mush/Spliff or whatever it's called.
A 'Platinum Breakz'-style compilation of some of the recent Hyperdub stuff which isn't really dubstep could be pretty genre-defining.
from Joker and 2000F & J Kamata i been digging a lot past few days. Really nice
the Joker stuff is must-buy though, for sure
The Geiom and Earlybird 12" is really worth checking out.
Guido's Orchestral Lab is coming out on Punch Drunk soon as well. I really do love that label.
one of my faves from them, the last three have all been some other level stuff.
I haven't bought it yet, but Joker's Digidesign is excellent. Love the deep synths.
one CD old one CD new
I dunno if they will manage all the other 5 albums this year tho, can't wait to see them comeout mind. Its sgona be another massive year for hyperdub.
Even if they only manage half it'll be amazing. I kind of wish they'd slow down actually.
i'm hoping for a pretty big collection
like the kode 9 LD one came out not long ago and the Joker / 2000F is out next week.
Then next month there is more Kode 9 and some Cooly G.
I can't get enough of the stuff at the moment, its gota be one of the best indiependant labels around. Hopefuly the comp will have the old stuff I'v not got round to finding yet on it.
drowning in it. I'm just gonna continue listening to track previews on boomkat.
I heard him play some bits on rinse the other day. I love LD's stuff I'm seeing him play tonight, I'm off to Sub Dub in Leeds as DMZ are coming to town.
He releases music at an alarming rate too, and he always keeps you on your toes because you never quite know what he's gonna dish out.
On Soul Jazz. It's superb. I'm not sure what my 90s grunge-loving self would have thought. They were a joke to me back then, our sixth form common room was a constant battle for the stereo between the 'indie' people and the 'junglist' crew. I used to piss off both by sticking on Miles Davis all the time. Mmmm.
Anyway, I WAS WRONG. This record is great. I'm sure I'll be saying the same about the donk revival in 2025.
I thought you were talkin bout MIA
Zomby's really taken off recently, according to emusic he's now even more popular than Burial!
it was very Burial-like indeed and very nice, it might not even comeout though he said. But hes workin on an album for this year.
though Im not a massive fan of burial personally, I really like his self titled album. Untrue really didn't grow on me atall.
there is far to much good bass music around at the moment!
