Loads of new Animal Collective I've noticed. hurrah!
i still don't quite understand what the catch is though, an advert every 5 songs doesn't really matter, does it?
..But I imagine there are lawyers(apple?, last.fm?) licking their lips in anticiptation.
They've licensed directly with the majors (and are part owned by them I believe?) and managed to get big indie organisations like MERLIN on board. I doubt they have any 'illegal' music on the service.
I think it will probably get a bit more ad-heavy as time goes by and they manage to sell more ad spots as I wouldn't imagine the royalty amounts they are paying are particularly cheap, or currently covered, as there seem to be about 5 ads at most currently playing.
The amount of music they have right now is overwhelmingly impressive given the expense and complexity of online music licensing.
30 seconds every 12 minutes not 20 is coming soon.
for free music on the internet. Along with awesome colab. playlists with my friends.
m. ward and alela diane albums on there today.
been listening to Twilight Sad's two other records nonstop, except for now i am listening to Dark Knight soundtrack
what is spotify?
Yeah, that's good that Fat Cat have signed up. Maybe I'm just naiive but I do feel that people will listen to early Animal Collective, and Twilight Sad on Spotify, and then they'll buy it. It's a desktop listening post in my eyes (ears?)
Which is handy. Happy that fat cat is on there too, I just found an FR Live EP that didn't know existed.
They very rarely seem to have anything I search for. I guess its fine if you have particularly mainstream tastes.
Mainstream my arse
Fair play mate; I'm glad it could find music for your dinner party.
"here's the first course, it's a chick-"
<DEEEEEEUUUUUUUUTSSSSSSCHHHHHHHH LAND HAS GOTTA DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE>
i feel for anyone that posts a reply like 'I guess its fine if you have particularly mainstream tastes'.
Look at me!
I've got the most obscure taste in music ..... and i need to make sure everyone else knows about it!
Look At My CD Collection
that's rubbish. i want to listen to stuff at work, not home where i have a bandwidth cap and new episodes of 24/heroes/fringe to download.
last fm doesn't need a download to stream music, so you can probably see why it's a bit annoying that what is apparently a better service does.
it stores all that you download on your hard disk, and shares it out p2p-style to other people in the network. that kind of thing isnt doable through a web browser.
without that, i'd imagine costs would be too prohibitive for it to work.
thank you. a helpful response!
Was kinda wondering how they managed it
but my work pc somehow lets me download spotify (and it loads quicker than itunes on my crappy laptop at home) but it won't let me download last.fm scrobbler. um?
I have the same issue!
that's very 2003!
(it's 15gb/month, so hardly tiny, but this is prime TV season!)
It's fine, it's got plenty stuff on it, obviously I'm reglualarily dissapointed with what it doesn't have, but the fact it's still got tonnes is good enough.
I can't get enough of that tune
i mean c'mon, worth it just for that
How do you get the tracks in the correct album order? They seem to be by popularity on mine.
that's more like it
cheers for that
it's awesome! I'm listening to the Blues Brothers soundtrack :D
and that's listening to stuff you would never imagine buying to see if it's good or sorting through something massive like the Django Reinhardt back catalogue to pick out the best tracks. Writing of Django, the best things I've found is tons of wonderful old jazz and blues.
I'm also a bit tired of people saying it's too mainstream and then listing all sorts of very very popular indie rock bands that aren't on there. Just read through the latest update lists. Although one could use it as an argument that they aren't adding decent stuff, the fact that most people won't recognise half the names makes it clear it's got a lot of unmainstream stuff on it.
I love it and have found pretty much all I want to listen to on it from Air France to Moxy Fruvous.
It's not just for listening to bands you know and love. In those cases you should just go out and buy the records. It's for the other stuff.
Maybe I have been to hasty to judge. Time to give it another try!
This is exactly what I use it and love it for, thank you for saying it.
Although I heard they had to take down some of their catalog recently... they have been putting more and more on and it is just perfect to use for what you said.
weirdo rippers! lets all lie on the floor next to the speaker and listen to every artist needs a tragedy really loud!
I'm going to buy Dark Was the Night anyway, but I wanted to hear the TVotR and Hot Chip tracks on Heroes. I like covers that make something different to the original, a win/win on first listens. And that Sufjan track, fuck me.
they get paid...
MOZZA's Latest effort.
They have really got their shit together. Doesn't look like it is going anywhere and they have some cool new features to unroll.
Not all of it but Franz, Arctics, the missing Elliott Smith, AC Strawberry Jam, Pavement (except S&E and BTC, but plus first three Malkmus and PSOI), Magnetic Fields, Clinic, Four Tet, Junior Boys etc. - and In The Aeroplane Over The Sea and Colossal Youth.
Last night I listened to 3 of the 5 Pavement tacks on Spotify just because , tonight I shall explore the bonus disc of Wowee Zowee and decide I need to buy it, no doubt.
If you click on Pavement you don't get the options for them. Type the album in and you do.
Royal Trux though!
there ain't no Domino on last.fm.
Think I'll use Spotify to hook up on bands that're playing ATP that I've not heard.
Any idea what they're up to?
I thought I was getting to end of all the new stuff I had to listen to, this becomes a chore. No time to review everything I've allready listened to....
and listened to CD's I own on Spotify so I didn't need to get up and walk to the stereo.
I also ordered a t-shirt which customised the text on to say "Hi, I'm Roberta from Spotify". Epic twat.
someone on my Facebook friends is wearing a Facebook t-shirt in his profile pic
I'm going to write a sitcom about The Two Very Different Bands Called Broadcast.
I searched for Broadcast today to no avail and listened to It's Blitz! a hell of a lot.
Fonal too. Check out Mudboy, he's good
it works on my computer, but i can't imagine that i would stop buying cd and just use spotify - the thing is their database is so small. some artists only have third of their discographies :(. Also, u can log in and listen only at home, can't use mobile or iPod as far as i know.
'i don't know, but it does'
cos i'm like 30, so he's well old innit.
Brainlove's made it on!
including New Art Riot and loads of Helen Love.
probably as part of their CDBaby tie-in. There's even some Trunk Records stuff gone up.
Loads and loads of Billy Childish projects too. I think the weekly updates on the blog now form one of the highlights of the week.
it looks like most of their back catalogue is on there now
JPS Experience. the album that got me into good music is on there. you should listen to it.
