He had a massive go at Brainlove for being too industry and not appreciating him properly.
I offered to put Organ mags out at every Brainlove show on our next tour and help any way I could.
He continued insulting and ranting until I started redirecting his email to my trash.
Lolz wot fun.
1) about six months after they [apparently] lost loads of money when a printer went bust midway through producing an issue of the zine, sean made a big announcement that it was going digitial instead. i emailed asking what would happen re: the rest of my PAID FOR subscription, and he replied [being typically rude] saying that i had been emailed twice and written to once offering me a free CD as compensation, and had never replied. HAD I REALLY, HMMM?
2) buying a load of stuff off them in a christmas sale, and only about 3/4s of it turning up. a couple of weeks later i emailed, asking where the rest of was as there was no packing note to indicate. i got a response back that pretty much just said "packing note? who do you think we are, marks and spencers?". no sean, because M&S sell those nice little swiss rolls, and you sell albums by rubbish goth bands from hungary. eventually a bunch more CDs did turn up, but they were all repeat copies of the ones i've already had.
i'm just glad i never took out a singles club subscription.
3) around the time he started up Organ TV, he asked for people to email him some suggestions of what to play. i emailed and asked him to play some Jetplane Landing (this was way before i was involved in STA, so i did it as a fan). he replied that he wouldn't as they "hadn't supported Organ enough". the place i first heard about Jetplane was in an interview in... yes... Organ. lollerskates.
i tried to get him to resume my subscription as i'd had two issues and the rest never showed up. he ignored every email i sent enquiring after this (politely, of course, i am a gentleman after all). eventually i cc'd his yahoogroups mailing list in to my third or fourth email and he replied within half an hour blustering about it not needing to be public, and i should email him privately. i did, immediately, and... he never replied.
i do still really like chang, though, so kudos for plugging them. shame all the cd's i actually bought from organ were a bit rubbish. yes, i also got sent a cynical smile cd. lovely.
treated Jezus Factory like we were EMI or something... I had promoted The Love Substitutes album (completely for free and off my own back I might add)..... Organ gave it a great review, which I thanked him for...... Then when we formed the label, he went mad asking why I never thanked him and supported Organ, even though I asked several notable Belgian websites to put links up to the review and Organ website.....
I sent him all the links and my email to a torrent of abuse. The guy is very rude, unable to see reason and understand facts...
It's a shame as he clearer 'got' the type of music we were dealing with...
because DiS would cover a band who were on a major label and said i was part of the machine and influenced by nothing but money. I am clearly part of the evil empire and have made millions and squillions from "exploiting" artists (and, er, don't have heaps of unsold CDs and a horrible minus signs all over the budgets of pretty much everything we've ever done)
it's weird, as he got to know me quite a bit when i first moved to london, mostly as i helped run Twist's website, whom he put out the single for and he knew what did and didn't motivate me, then would send these emails cc-ing in hundreds of people slagging me off for stuff like liking Bloc Party or being excited that the Kaiser Chiefs single I put out had sold out in a couple of days and was getting played by Wossy. Clearly I was meant to not get excited by anything and use every opportunity to plug [insert name of latest project featuring a member of Stony Sleep]
all of us at Secretly Canadian/Jagjaguwar UK have been getting the expletive-filled emails from him recently (as did our US colleagues last year, which was confusing for them as they've never heard of Organ)
the thing that puzzles me is this: is Organ not also part of the "London music industry" that he so detests, given that it's business is music and it's based in London?
I love this thread. Best thing you ever did, James, and I've just signed your band!
I could tell a lot of stories about this man which pretty much exactly mirror all of the above. Org supports BSM, BSM supports Org, one day he flips out and has, for the last two years, made us the scapegoat for all that's wrong in the industry. I'm not seeing we're not, but he's still a prick
My favourite thing at the moment is the email he sends our bands (always out of the blue) saying "we won't be covering you because your label don't support us." The bands then forward the email to me and say "what's Org?"
"Don't worry about it lads, it's not even worth explaining"
my ex missus somehow ended up on his mailing list & sent a polite email asking to be removed. incredibly he replied with a hateful expletive laden tirade saying amongst other things why the fuck did you ask to be on in the first place etc etc. it was quite amazing - i've never seen anything like it. i've intentionally avoided anything he's done/been involved with ever since.
didnt luguburrugas guitar player punch him in the face? he was mad too mind... also some badness with speedurchin - remember them - sean organ reminds me of rainy nights outside gigs in kentish town or holloway.
i've had contact with sean where he's been really nice, and where he's been a bit of an arse. when he's into a band and supporting them he's great, but it doesn't take much (anything) to piss him off.
I've met Marina from Organ a couple of times though, and she's been nothing but really really nice.
He had a snipe at A Badge of Friendship a few years back saying we never "supported him" and that we had ignored his myspace messages. We checked out inbox - nothing but a few messages which were replied to. Forwarded these to Sean and then he had a go at our DIY Summer Festival which was Drowned in Sound sponsored. He said DiS was corporate etc.
We were very polite back but it was received with bile and hatred. He did the same with Southern Records, he had a go at them too! What an odd bod. What is he doing now and why is he still doing things?! I've heard so many bad stories!!
He then flyered at a gig were doing at The Good Ship. Marina was lovely, he stood there like the Hunch Back of Notre Dame, saying nothing. Easy over email eh Sean? So rude and uncalled for.
... and this is making me chuckle. I got a couple of their compilations back in the day, that was as far as it went. Mostly because I liked a miniscule amount of the music.
We made the mistake of sending him a (non-automated) message last year asking him nicely if he'd mind casting his vote for us to be on the BSM 6 machine compilation. Of course it's understandable not wanting some random band sending you a message asking for this kind of thing (especially taken in conjunction with Kev's recent, and valid, Myspace critique), but the vitriol we met with in return was rather disproportionate. When he sent a message back asking if we were taking the piss, I replied (not knowing who he was, or of the animosity between him and BSM...and everyone else) to the effect that we were sorry for the spam, but simply wanted to take every chance we could to make it onto a compilation put out by a label we admired. I thought this would be the end of it. Oh no. In return, he called the voting process 'bulshit (sic) and crap' and couldn't believe we were falling for 'shit like this'. He managed to get a few Organ plugs in there at the same time.
I've never met the man, and thanks to his parting shot of 'you really don't have a clue do you...goodbye' I probably never will. I'm trying to work out if that's a shame or not.
Sean ate a bowl of seven lemons today, one by one, like apples, peel and all, washing it down with vinegar as he went. Then he snorted three lines of sylica gel from some empty boxes at the back of Footlocker.
Has anything in particular led to you asking this just now?
I don't know
but he used to help my old band out loads circa 1995.
Is he still at it?

two fun memories of dealing with org:
1) about six months after they [apparently] lost loads of money when a printer went bust midway through producing an issue of the zine, sean made a big announcement that it was going digitial instead. i emailed asking what would happen re: the rest of my PAID FOR subscription, and he replied [being typically rude] saying that i had been emailed twice and written to once offering me a free CD as compensation, and had never replied. oh, i thought of another one!

He sounds brilliant
I'd love to meet him.

i tried to get him to resume my subscription as i'd had two issues and the rest never showed up. he ignored every email i sent enquiring after this (politely, of course, i am a gentleman after all). eventually i cc'd his yahoogroups mailing list in to my third or fourth email and he replied within half an hour blustering about it not needing to be public, and i should email him privately. i did, immediately, and... he never replied.

i tried to flog mine at cex
didn't work. now it's at one of those 2nd hand cd & book shops near brighton station. maybe i should go look for it!
also
"eventually i cc'd his yahoogroups mailing list"
superb effort
i guess it's okay to be part of the yahoo machine
because yahoo is so wacky!!11!
yeah, he

doh!
I thought he was a she
Quite like organ mag though
A she?
With the name Sean?
e.g. Sean Young
he used to send me these hateful tirades
because DiS would cover a band who were on a major label and said i was part of the machine and influenced by nothing but money. I am clearly part of the evil empire and have made millions and squillions from "exploiting" artists (and, er, don't have heaps of unsold CDs and a horrible minus signs all over the budgets of pretty much everything we've ever done)

not just us then
all of us at Secretly Canadian/Jagjaguwar UK have been getting the expletive-filled emails from him recently (as did our US colleagues last year, which was confusing for them as they've never heard of Organ)
the thing that puzzles me is this: is Organ not also part of the "London music industry" that he so detests, given that it's business is music and it's based in London?
i think to be part of the "music industry"
you have to, like, release records. and stuff.
He does, doesn't he?
Or maybe he's packed in Org Records now. It was probably too exploitative for him.
Jeniferever were their single of the week a few weeks ago, i just noticed.
Oh, the ironing.
Doesn't he have one eye?
Is that the reason?
Nah.
He's a total cockend.
YES!
I love this thread. Best thing you ever did, James, and I've just signed your band!

you've signed a band
fucking sell out. you disgust me.
look at him, he signed a band
....
Didn't they invent the word C*nt for that old one eyed man?
ha ha ha
my ex missus somehow ended up on his mailing list & sent a polite email asking to be removed. incredibly he replied with a hateful expletive laden tirade saying amongst other things why the fuck did you ask to be on in the first place etc etc. it was quite amazing - i've never seen anything like it. i've intentionally avoided anything he's done/been involved with ever since.
i heard the dude blamed the chick
i heard the chick called sean organ a prick, and things ain't been the same since.
10/10
that kev is clearly an evil being
i wonder who he does like, perhaps it's such an elite group that it only includes him?
have heard so many stories of him fucking over bands
I wonder if Sean has seen this thread
or perhaps he's turned a blind eye.
10/10
brutal
i think
didnt luguburrugas guitar player punch him in the face? he was mad too mind... also some badness with speedurchin - remember them - sean organ reminds me of rainy nights outside gigs in kentish town or holloway.
I heard that
Sean only goes to gigs in the rain
And to see bands he hates
And when nobody else will be there
And then he accuses the band of selling out
This thread.... 100% gold.
made my day yesterday and then again today!
it's wierd
i've had contact with sean where he's been really nice, and where he's been a bit of an arse. when he's into a band and supporting them he's great, but it doesn't take much (anything) to piss him off.

broken record anyone?

Weird!
ah, Southern Records
the very crux of the corporate, money-driven wing of the record industry.
I don't even know the guy...
... and this is making me chuckle. I got a couple of their compilations back in the day, that was as far as it went. Mostly because I liked a miniscule amount of the music.
I think rage hinders his spelling

just so you all know
Sean ate a bowl of seven lemons today, one by one, like apples, peel and all, washing it down with vinegar as he went. Then he snorted three lines of sylica gel from some empty boxes at the back of Footlocker.
He is still furious.
what has
happened now?
