Tell me more about this 'drugs' thing.
I like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0rTscWdQGo&fmt=18
That's acid house though innit?
but then again, im generally not a fan of drum and bass. Or trance which is generally pretty shit
but most music, especially popular music has equal artistic merit.
but not at 8 in the morning when people play it on the bus, thats a bit gimp-like of them
i put trance and also most drum and bass in this category too. they are all just a variation of a central theme. maybe i am being a little harsh with d & b there, but i generally just don't like it. same bassline same beat. boooring.
not hard house, just happy hardcore
I dont think they were made with artistic merit in mind its just fast insane beats and cheesey bits to make chavs move. Nowt wrong with that and in alot of ways its not to far away from hardcore with guitars in its fuck it lets do it loud crude fast and with passion.
just because it is simple or liked by people who maybe don't enjoy the most challenging music, i think it is nonsense to devalue it for this reason. i've tried to make some tracks, and it's very hard to create the euphoric rush that the most successful tracks attain. all pop is low art, and when it is subjective to taste, i don't think you can base a distaste of it on snobbery and then call it devoid of merit.
People that like it - idiots. Pure and simple.
I dunno. How do you measure that? I don't think Bob Dylan has artistic merit, just a Ladybird My First Rhyming Dictionary and a slightly sore throat.
It's not fashionable, sure, but there are moments when 'happy hardcore' can be as uplifting and exciting as any other genre. More so, in some cases. I love it.
rotterdam gabber / industrial strength records / neophyte / bloody fist records / nasenbluten ...
fuck happy hardcore its a fuckin plague
It's not something i'd ever listen or dance to but I do quite admire how defiantly cheesy it is, completely divorced from the progression of popular culture in its own cul de sac of neverending repetition, retardation and refinement serving only as the soundtrack for kids to get fucked up to.
because who is to judge what does or doesn't have artistic merit in the first place? I'm not a massive fan of either, but that doesn't mean the whole genre is going to be crap. It can be fun, sometimes. Not when it's blasted out of some spoilered ford escort though.
