Todd and Part Chimp last night
You would never have known it was Todd's last gig, would you? Their singer was an utter mess. Anyone else have fun wrestling him on the floor before he legged it after getting peppered with the glass he'd smashed on the floor? The band were totally tight throughout, v enjoyable, but a massive anticlimax after that deranged start.
New Part Chimp stuff sounded good, but it was washing over me until the played Bring Back The Sound. Great drumming, and I find the bassist kinda hot. Maybe it's cause her spread eagle tattoo is awesome. The encore was a glorious wave of sludge.
Any other thoughts?

SXSW: When A&R people go on holiday?
DiS meets M. Ward - Part One
DiS meets Gary Numan
Shit, just heard that big beardy guy the Todd singer took out
broke his collar bone. Nice.
I turned up late and drunk
got told by my (more organized) friend that the Todd set was amazing, described much of the madness that had apparently happened. I had no idea it was their last one, why are they finishing?
reshuffling the lineup and renaming themselves I believe
hopefully
ill catch them again sometime, was really gutted I missed them, fucking hammersmith line being a twat as usual.
todd are one of the best bands i've ever seen
and part chimp are awesome too. really wanted to go last night :(
they're awesome, even when the singer stumbled off stage they were tight as
They take that texan noisey pysch stuff and drown it in huge riffs and southern rock. And yeah, amazing
Last night was a real car crash show- speaker humping, throwing stuff at the audience, starting fights with anyone, before finally some sort of threeway wrestling match on broken glass involving the mike cord being used to trip people up. Was like watching Rollins or Iggy or something, just far more tense. I think the dude pretty much knocked over one of those giant speaker stacks they have at the lexington. Matty White Heat looked half worried and half elated.
I was down the front for Todd
and i was a bit scared and pissed off...am just a girl but didn't fancy rolling in the glass/being hit in the face with a mic (sorry if that's not very rock and roll). It might have been amusing if I was stood further away. At first I thought it was a joke, then I thought the singer was trying to break down the forth wall/push the boundaries of performer audience interaction, but then I decided he was just a wasted dick who though it'd be funny. Enjoyed seeing some woman storm into the mele and angrily drag him into the dressing room - probably to avoid a law suit (I heard it was a dislocated shoulder not a broken collar bone but that was via the "grapevine"). It just spoilt what could have been a great gig. Part chimp were awesome though.
I get that
I don't think anyone wanted to get hit in the face with that mike he was whirling around. You still can't deny it was pretty exciting. It got the adrenalin going, it's been a while since I've seen a band get that out of control onstage. That's the whole excitement - mix of fear and 'what's he gonna do next'. Maybe I'm just young and dumb.
...
This was so great, part chimp live = awesomeness
I hadnt heard of Todd, but that was all kinds of insane :D
Comes To Your House
is one of the best ever noise rock albums. Jesus Lizard + Butthole Surfers + a whole bunch of wtf?
...
Will check it out
I dont think my ears will appreciate it though
that was my first time seeing todd
pretty crazy shit. the band soldiered on nicely after the singer disappeared though.
part chimp were great as usual. can't wait for the new album, couple of the new songs sounded ace(especially the one where the singer had pedal trouble at the beginning...is that a new one?)
I believe so and it did sound great.
there was a super fast one as well which i enjoyed a lot.
"Craig, this pedal you gave me is shit. Wotz wiv dat?"
omg, todd R ded???
:((((((
The Jelas
were best
TODD ARE NOT DEAD!!!!!!

YAY
You were awesome at the Lexington.
good news indeed
Thank god for that
Big beardy guy
Hi I was the big beardy guy that was brought down by the singer at that Todd gig. I remember watching the band, four pints in enjoying the slight argybargy, looked over at the pile of people on the floor wondering what that was about... Then I woke up in the dressing room...
So I am in the dressing room, Todd's singer is apologising to me. My (brand new Jim Martin alike) Specs are fucked up, a bump on my head and my arm hanging pretty wrong and in a whole barrage of pain.
Call up my doctor mate and think it is a dislocated arm, have a couple of people trying to pull and twist it back into joint. Todds Singer puking over a chair/in a bucket. The band still playing outside... I can't see sh!t and really annoyed my new extortionately expensive glasses are broken.
Queue Hospital 4 times and a nasty operation two weeks down, turns out I (or Todd) properly broke my collarbone so it was trying bust out of my skin. I know have some sort of hookaround plate in my shoulder and a 6 inch Frankenstein scar, Pysio on the way and it all F**KING HURTS LIKE A BASTARD.
I was there by myself, what happened? Was I knocked out? Was I just concussed, I remember a mic lead.
Jesus. Hope it all heals okay.
I can remember that the grapple went on for a little while, and I thought that he'd attempted to bring you down earlier on in the show. He just dragged you down and you must have landed awkwardly. You laid there for a while until somone helped you up and were led backstage.
Still, rock'n'roll, eh?
Gets me up in the morning that is for sure
So just bought to the floor. Must of been quite a slam.
Woah, hope you're ok buddy
Seems like there's no bad blood between you and the band, although I could be wrong. That's admirable.
If I see you around, I'll get you a drink.
Basically, the singer kinda clotheslined you and landed heavily on you. He was an utter mess, surprised he didn't injure himself as well.
Hope it all heals up ok and that you're fighting fit soon. And remember, chicks digs scars.
I didn't know who Todd was, or anything about them, just at a Random show
Bad blood isn't my style. Thought they were a pretty decent band. Nice surprise from all the metal I have been working on. Don't think that is a cool thing to do though beat up on your audience. Anybody who knows Mosh Pits knows there are boundaries and he did overstep the line considerably it seems.
Although everybody I speak to says I should look at suing/ambulance chasers, again that REALLY isn't my style. But can't help feeling pretty grumpy from time to time. Go to gig spend months recovering if I wasn't a mouse pusher my livelyhood would be fucked.
Wow
Let's go to a gig and get assaulted and frightened by drunk idiots. Sounds kinda like the opposite of a good time. Well, unless you hate your life, which, i assume, is what a lot of the people at these sorts of shows are all about.
LOL?
no lol
just hurts. Getting grumpier by the day actually.
hate to say this but
craig has been known to jump into audiences brandishing a 7" knife, thank christ it wasn't one of those nights...! I suppose it's from a different culture what with him being from texas and his punk background in killdozer, hardcore shows used to be a life threatening past time! That's not to justify what sounds like a horrific injury that your average person would be pressing for damages from (it could have happened at your average donk night/stereophonics gig in theory :D), but that sort of sub-gg allin antics could have been really really nasty. I think him and the band are brilliant but I'll be fucked if I'm going to go to their shows and get my glasses/neck broken, you never heard of shit like this at jesus lizard shows.
A 7" knife?!
I don't care if he's from Texas or not, bringing a knife onstage is pathetic.
probably important to point out that it was a plastic knife.
Yeah...I read that after I hit reply
But I couldn't be bothered to do anything about it.
the knife.
the 7" knife was actually a plastic halloween toy. you press a button and it plays the music from the shower scene in psycho!
craig wasnt the singer at that show. it was lawrence.
Todd are playing at Catch on 21st March
I think I will attend. For sure.
i hate bands that have to use violence to hide a lack of original ideas
as someone said above the jesus lizard didnt need to do that shit.
But if they did that kind of stuff...
their shows would be better innit.
But if they did that kind of stuff...

no
for me its gotten old after the 7th/8th time a vocalist has thrown himself at you and split yr drink/made you bleed.
it was quite fun when i was about 15, but it seems childish to me now.
I'd agree
But there's a lot to be said for genuinely feeling a little what-the-fuck is-going-to-happen-next? at a gig. And this was more genuine, because Laurence was a fucking mess, as opposed to some macho guy putting it on and playing at being Rollins. It was exciting. That's all I'll say for it. And Todd are really great, one of my favourite bands, even just on record.
todd are a really great band though
and the one time i've seen them live they were incredible and didn't do anything violent or whatever.
^^^ exactly
their set supporting big business is in my top ten best shows ever (I have a tape somewhere, came out ok if the band want a copy?) and they'd only just got there after struggling to find a babysitter apparently! Not very rock and roll but it endeared me to them massively
thanks Toddranch for clarifying about the knife...! think it was a luminaire show and it wasn't entirely obvious it was plastic, apologies for making you sound like, er, the so solid crew...
they're the worst live band I've ever seen
saw them play at the Buffalo Bar about four years ago - it was some proper poor shit and the singer started on someone as well then. Must have been a particularly bad show because someone I was with who likes them admitted they were terrible.
Suppose i should post up the review

:(
bummer man. you should definitely look into what your rights are concerning compensation... fuck all that breaking the fourth wall bollocks; you shouldn't have to put up with that sort of behaviour from anyone.
