Any questions you want answering?
but the best of luck for you if it's conrad you're talking to.
has to be up there with morrissey and stephin merritt as one of the most difficult interviewees.
At least I hope it will be. I hope to Christ.
unless you are not fine to him.
still no questions?
(i) Did they consider finishing after So Divided? They said themselves recently (can't remember source) that they weren't happy with their last couple of albums - add ridicule from fans / critics / labels etc - what was it that kept them going?
New album is a great improvement - what helped them get their shit together? Are they confident that they're back on the right track?
(ii) They released the new one on their own label (i think) called 'Richter Scale'. Have they plans to release other bands, solo projects etc? What does the future hold for Trail of Dead and Richter Scale?
who are you interviewing for?
I had the second question down but the first one's a good idea, just hope Conrad doesn't get too pissed by it.
Out of curiosity. I'd put the first question across rather gently - double check where that quote came from in case it's bogus!
why should i be frightened of conrad???
but yeah, ask them why there's so much piano on the new album (not that i don't love it!). also, are they looking forward to their interview with WECB in boston in march? :P
There's usually a kinda chivalrous/fantasy/adventure theme going on.
The one for festival thyme made me laugh..
starved them of a massive massive potential following?
The amount of times I got laughed at when talking about them is surprising, when I was into them.
"If you like Sonic Youth you might like And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead."
"Ha. Doubt it."
"Check them out, they sound better than they sound."
"You won't, will you?"
and their early stuff is very Sister-era Sonic Youthy. That same sheet noisey aesthetic.
I generally find that sonic youth fans always know of trail of dead. the only people who think trail of dead would be shit cause of their name, are people who just have shit taste in music anyway and prob wont have heard of sonic yoof either...
people think they're a heavy metal or goth rock band
when i was 14 or whatever and flicking through my copy of kerrang!, i came across their name and scoffed and said to myself "i'd never listen to a band with a name like that. they clearly make some kind of ridiculous death metal. pah" and then a couple of years later i heard relative ways and now they are one of my favourite bands in life. so there you are.
Makes for a reasonable soundbite, doesn't it?
I think the first thing I'll ask them will be where they are now, what they've been working on today, then move onto the album. I genuinely want to know what the title's about; general selfishness is humanity seems like a too obvious answer. Knowing Conrad it's probably some kind of forgotten eon prophesised by Osiris in 400000000000BC
I'm asking direct questions for the most part
or via phone/email/online or something?
the guy likes to talk, and he's usually got an interesting point of view, so just give him a starting point and let him go!
also, if yr gonna ask something you think is likely to piss him off, maybe don't throw it in at the start... give yrself time to establish a rapport.
AYWKUBTTOD is the last line of some long Peruvian (?) poem...something like that.
Chances are he won't. It's a phone interview.
an interesting read so it is:
my interview with the band is this weekend and i'm growing increasingly nervous.
Not sure when it's been rearranged for :(
