Shouldn't someone else be getting asked in MGMT's place now Mr Summers?
already were one of the backup asks due to fugazi not playing.
complicated business this.
good update anyway, looking forward to Parts And Labor.
Shame about Xiu Xiu, isn't Jamie Stewart touring Solo? Couldn't you ask him.
But excellent about Jeffrey Lewis!
3 bands to be asked by the fans yet:)
Shame about Jesus Mary Chain mind.
Jamie, is it back to the first 2 being asked and then the next 2.
Jamie Stewart playing solo in UK?
There's no mention on their myspace...
but it's on the pushcen site that he's touring http://www.puschen.net/artists.html - at the bottom
Cheers for that, will keep my eye on it.
Can't miss out on that if he plays Manchester.
Errors should be good though.
so many bands that constantly play smaller venues. ive seen three of the last four at <250 capacity places in the past year, and they all tour regularly.
theres hardly anything special about this ATP.
I haven't seen Errors or Jeffrey Lewis yet, so I'm excited about seeing those. I think the 'no voting for bands who've played ATP before' stipulation has slightly backfired- this means that a lot of the bigger bands you can vote for this time are the bands that no one voted for last time because there's a very high chance they won't play. This is only speculation, mind. Parts & Labor to play the main stage please, they'd sound awesome in a big venue.
they are bands that will play a lot of other festivals. the past two ive been to has had bands like Worlds End Girlfriend, Ola Podrida, Art Of Fighting, Psarandoris, Octopus Project, ones that wouldnt get a look elsewhere and very rarely play, along with bands like Okkervil River, Mono and The National that dont tour as often.
the last vs the fans ones had some great bands too, ones that very really play the UK.
That's partly what made the Mike Patton/Melvins ATP so brilliant, getting to see bands I may never see again. I've now resigned to the fact that no ATP will ever be as good as that.
they are really good bands! i like the no previous bands rule, means we don't get the same bands all the time...
Still got 12 slots to go, so all to play for. And the ATP side is damn good anyway.
Shame about Xiu Xiu, and JAMC being unavailable. They would have really beefed up the fans side of the bill.
2) not everyone gets to go to see all these small bands, and it's quite nice to have a roundup of them.
3) just... bleh.. to you, sir. blehhhhhhh!
There are bands who tour loads, but I wouldn't necessarily make a trip to see. Bristol is really the closest place to me that these bands might play (about 200 miles away).
I don't get out much and I've seen Jeffrey Lewis twice in the past couple of years (and could've seen him again at Field Day). Don't know why anyone would vote for him...
people live out of the way, or simply can't afford to spend £10/time on going to see bands.
also, isn't that kinda the point of festivals? and it's not like parts & labor are going to be at reading or latitude anytime soon, are they?
unless you're Cat Power in which case you'll bore your crowd to tears
just be glad you weren't at a headline date? :)
Grails have never toured here. Most of us were too young to have seen Jesus Lizard live. They're reforming Sleep. Devo are playing at a Butlins. Young Marble Giants are playing a reformed show. Sorry, that just doesn't add up.
I'm really happy with the ATP additions, particularly Devo and Jesus Lizard, but all the BIG acts (The Knife, MBV, MGMT, Beck, JAMC) that the fans could vote for have so far been unable to play. I know it's not ATP's fault, but it seems like the big names are all saying no. Still, Devo and Jesus Lizard :D
Kind of. ATP have made some stellar choices though.
yes they have. saw them in nottingham at junktion 7 many years back.
they were really good when I saw em. Played a cool Sun City Girls cover too
I just read the blurp for The Whispertown 2000 and they sound very interesting. And X! ATP Breeders is shaping up fantastically.
i remember them being really good
when are you going to ask andrew wk?
I'm a melting pot of excitement.
I went and got me some tickets.
please can jeffrey lewis play the other atp too please?
i think he is perfect for this kind of thing.
lots of love,
ps - please.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
I might have to go along to this after all.
X will play any other gigs.
But I can see myself shelling out for another Minehead weekend.
really really good
New album out in May. Come on ATP. Do your bit - he plays old Grandaddy material live! Why on earth have you not booked him?! Tell me Jamie, tell me!
