Where the hell do you start with them? Pretty sprawling discography. Recommendations?
it is allowed to start with a best of in this case
but if you MUST start with a proper album
This Nations Saving Grace or Hex Enduction Hour.
and feckin loved it. Its more accessible than alot of their other stuff and then just go from there and enjoy!
Hex and This Nations Saving Grace are great, but you can get Grotesque (which probably just edges Hex as my favourite) from Play.com for £3.99 inc delivery!
loads of their albums are dirt cheap on Amazon and Play, I think I may have to fill the gaps in my collection!
the first album is well worth getting, that was my starting point with the fall alongside Fall Heads Roll, which at the time was their latest album. It was their first and latest albums at the time and since then i've bought about 15 others. The Real New Fall LP (Formerly Country On The Click) is one of my faves, and the cd single version of Sparta FC is great.
then Hex. After that the whole world is your playground. I think it is probably a scientific fact that no-one has 'got into' The Fall in exactly the same way. (Other than those who were into em from the beginning of course, but fuck em...)
that's well worth a look. 97 tracks! Container Drivers, Hip Priest, Eat Y'self Fitter, Winter, M5, Spinetrak, Spencer, Groovin with Mr Bloe and Blindness are all particular favourites but there are just so many.
LP-wise I started with The Light User Syndrome (as that was from the era when I started listening to John Peel's show). It's ace and as fine a starting point as any.
I dunno though. I got it when it came out for £22. Massive bargain.
Because I hadn't heard of the fall. Just listened to Disc 1 and needed to hear the rest.
that's for all six discs. Bargain.
but that's still only 17 bucks!
I got it for £14 from Amazon and it's the best musical purchase I've made in ages.
its the best place to start.
even though it just makes it into my top 5 of all time Fall albums list. Every song is a lyrical masterpiece.
