Iran - Dissolver

sixteen_blue [Edit] [Delete] 2 replies 11:43, 5 February '09

I know a lot of you really liked it but for me, Dear Science opened with a bang but got pretty boring pretty quickly. I actually didn't like it that much on repeated listens.

I've been digesting the new album by Kyp Malone's OTHER band, Iran, over the past day or so and it's pretty fucking mega. Noisy and sprawling and epic one minute and soft little acoustic harmonies the next. There is a lot of feedback and a lot of heavy guitar and subsequently a lot of love from me.

I’m not literate enough to give a great description of the sounds on this record but the scale of it is pretty immense. There’s one song that starts as a softly strummed la-la melody and becomes a stadium rock monster (complete with screaming crowd) by its close. There’s references to funk, shoegaze, grunge, wall of sound and nineties US bands normally found of the left of that dial. And Pinkerton Weezer. I’m not too good at describing if I’m honest.

A very different beast to Dear Science but for me much more enjoyable. If anyone else has heard this record I’d really like to hear your two cents.
