anybody go last night? Were they any good? I'm trying to decide whether to go see them on wednesday night or not..
maybe i missed something good, but musically found them pretty boring. bellowing vocals, standard indie-rock. why are people getting excited about them?
I'm considering checking out their Madame JoJo's show, but if the reviews aren't too great I may not bother. Have to save my pennies at the moment...
i went for lucky dragons
this is an 8.5 pitchfork review: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/51042-crystal-antlers-ep
so don't listen to me!
and heard a few tracks, but was just wondering what there live show is all about/like.
the stage isn't really made for rocking out. seemed quite tame in comparison to live footage i've seen.
i think they would work well at madame jojo's, though.
drummer and percussionist and the bass player had barely any room to move about.
I don't get what all the fuss is about.
Lucky Dragons, in the other hand..
Lucky Dragons were like an electronic hippie nightmare, not helped by the fact that I had someone stood right in front of me so could only see the blokes back and laptop for most of their set.
Crystal Antlers are a bit Comets on Fire-lite but they were loads of fun to watch and they were all really into it which is always nice to see.
i wasn't sold on lucky dragons. couldn't see anything so i just started looking at people's t-shirts and got a bit distracted. I enjoyed crystal antlers a lot, especially when the percussion guy dropped his stick and looked really angry, bless him
he spent far more time dancing around than he did actually playing anything, he was like a cheerleader for the band, I liked his t-shirt though.
sound was a bit off, but they just never seemed to get going.
And the percussionist? What's the point of having someone who plays exactly the same stuff as the main drummer?!
worst thing was, when it seemed that they were starting to ramp it up a gear, they went off!
i really hope their album is much better
still left for tonight on the door at The Lexington. Should be fun!
I was gutted cos' of the poor sound, what a crappy sound guy , I love the guy's voice ( Crystal Antlers ) is but you couldn't hear him. what a shame. especially cos' of the fact all the bands that were playing before them had a decent sound. again, crappy sound guy.
They requested it to be like that....
pretty boring last night, thought they were better at the Borderline on Tuesday, but still nothing amazing though. Not sure I'd go see them in a hurry again.
