"This is the best thing that could happen to a band on their debut," he said. "We are completely blown away, it's incredible."
We'll see about that, mate.
eh? what does that mean?
i'm not a fan, but i don't really understand the hatred from dis people.
so it's a quiet time for music, and they're the highest profile release of the week etc
it had been antony and the johnsons though :(
indie teeny tots with HMV vouchers from christmas too.
They have about 5 posters at every station on the underground.
Jason Mraz in the top ten somehow, Antony & The Johnsons top 20 entry, Seasick Steve with his last album back in the top 20 and another appearing in the top 40 for the first time... alright, maybe my leverage of interesting is different.
I quite like Death.
is the only good one aye.
Flippin heck we have tons of r and b non entities clogging up the charts week in week out and now we have a half decent band at number one the knives are out. Give me strength!
It's sad but enivitable and the worst part of this discussion board.
I have this album twice once on the 7" box and once on CD and I'm as far from a teeny with tokens as you could hope to get. I have to say that it quite clear this band has ££££s behind them, but at least it's the sort of sound I like rather than the soft commercial dross that usually lives there.
Whilst this isn't a patch on the superb Crystal Stilts, I'm happy to see this at number one.
I don't really care either way, I'm not going to burst a blood vessel over who is topping the album chart.
than another totally insincere joy division rip-off.
I really think all this hate stems from the fact that there's nothing much worse out there in terms of new music. Whilst I haven't been blown away by any of the big new bands, I haven't disliked any of them either. White Lies' debut is quite solid and I've found little in it to complain about.
give it til festival season and no one will even remember them.
It's the festivals which will take them to the next level, people will be clamouring to see them while the BBC will indulge us all in extended highlights of their Glastonbury set.
...it's a real accomplishment to make something so f-ing commercial - there is not one of those ten tracks which isn't single material. That's an achievement by anyone's standards. The music is fine - it's o.k.. It's not the best example of post-punk revival (which most of us probably thought was beginning to lose it's momentum now anyway). The problem with their album is it leaves me cold, and that's ofdd considering the young lads are trying so hard to sound really bloody sincere about this stuff. But for the great unwashed, i don't expect that matters too much because they won't be taking it half as seriously. If I want to feel something, I'll stick 'From The Lion's Mouth' by The Sound on. I can live with that.
i love that Sound album.
there good, the albums good.simple as that, and im extremely pleased a band i like is at no.1,i understand scouting for girls and pidgeon detectives and kaiser chiefs because there popular and shit but white lies are popular because there good
of the credit crunch era.
I gave the album a Spoitfy listen over the weekend.
To me it sounded musically a bit like the Killers and vocally a bit Editors / Interpol / Ian Curtis.
To be fair they're pretty good at what they're doing. Can't fault them. It's not something that I want to listen to, so I wont.
And as for everyone moaning about the hype -- I'd not heard of them until they were mentioned on the boards, so you've only yourselves to blame, yeah?
<dismounts from high horse>
Comparing them to Joy Division and Interpol, saying they've raised the bar etc etc.
They basically sound like The Killers.
...which was full of beaming of praise and astonishing statements like, "much better than Editors or Interpol" and "they know how to ROCK". Now I listened to 'The Back Room' at the same time as listening to this album, just to make sure. There's no way this band is better than the Editors on that album - I'm not sure if the Editors are better, either yet. As for being better than Interpol - what are we talking about here, Antics?, even 'TOTBL'? Go and get a cold shower, for heaven's sake people. They're ok, and I hope they tweak and interest in some to explore 80s post-punk more deeply, but they're not THAT good.
They were about 15 when that picture was taken. If I was still listening to the same music and wearing the same clothes as I did when I was 15, I'd look pretty stupid and have shit taste in music.
Give em a break! They grew up and formed a great band.
didnt joy division do the same? and no they don't sound like the aforementioned band. if you take them for a pop band when listening to their album they come across as a very accomplished band considering they are only 20 and every song on there could be a potential single
...Number 1 shock!!!
