but with a live djset as the support? a bit odd.
awesome two gigs there if they happen.
cheers for this.
when sunn played the atp easy to swallow show about 5 years back, so very possible.
well all looks promising then, and I forgot about the Nadja gig as well around the same time. Its going be a doomy couple of weeks. can't wait.
Long as he doesn't play to much rise above records, sheavy always kinda sucked
at the Brudenell in Leeds on 21st March.
Earth in April.
It was the best thing ever and the worst thing ever all at once. Maybe though.
IN OTHER NEWS: EARTH EARTH EARTH DYLAN CARLSON DYLAN CARLSON DYLAN CARLSON
aye, at the forum with boris was one of the strangest experiences ever. i've never felt vibrations like it, i think i've got see them again.
and yes Earth is going to be epic, at the borderline, its tiny!
I dunno, I don't really like Sunn O))), except the stuff with Boris. There's no real dynamics in what I've heard, it seems so completely static unlike other 'doom' stuff. I actually sold Black One because I thought it was so pointless when compared to Earth 2. Live they were a headfuck. I can't comment on whether they were good or bad. They just were.
its just bewildering live but it kind of stuck with me so i'm going to head back see the show again. now seeing earth at the time of earth 2 must have been something.
i think i'm on holiday then and a trip to london was on my mind anyway. not sure if i'd be too bothered about seeing sunn0))) again either - i thought they were awesome the last time but i was totally fucked up. watching them sober would probably be horrendous. plus "domkirke" was a bit shit.
best thing they've ever done!
when I saw them in the summer. The new stuff doesn't really work without the second guitarist and you couldn't hear the keys. Boo urns.
Have faith, brother.
Sound was still terrible though.
But I'll be stuck up the other end of the country, listening to the Grease Mega Mix, in a large sweaty room full of people I hate. I'm missing Nadja again as well, although I will get to hear Mono get raped by the Scala's soundsystem. Good times.
So judging by that, complexity sounds better ha. Mono will be great and you know it.
First time I've been there in ages. I still quite like it.
The only band I've enjoyed there were Part Chimp, who were so sickeningly loud and completely unsubtle I thought I was actually going to die in a vortex of treble and sludge. Now, there's a band I need to see again; their new stuff was sounding brilliant.
You're right though, Mono will be great. Mono are always great without fail.
Earth is the same date as Bangface Weekender starts. Fucksticks, mother's cunt - fucksticks.
tickets £13.50, venue still not confirmed. it'll be the same as the Grimmrobe shows they did in america recently.
thats been updated today
there goes the rest of my hearing.
sort it out, O'Malley
Grumbling Fur are support. its Daniel O'Sullivan from Guapo & Alexander Tucker and some other people: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=stX_M2vcmRg
for the record Alex is also playing white heat soon with the guy from parts & labors solo project
Though can't you get Alex to release an album of his doomy stuff? The stuff he does release is great and all, but the doomy set I saw him do once really was astounding.
that ought to get his attention.
tell him to release a book of his art work because its bloody amazing.
...details of gig and new album, and a gallery of Atilla dressed as a tree, thus:
What the tune was that Sunn 0))) came on to? it was like a horror movie, The Shining sort of tune. Sounded like violins doing a highly strung tick-tock thing then some immense scary bass notes ringing out. Any ideas?
But when it went quiet and the guy shouted, "Only death is real!" I almost pissed myself laughing.
whatever it was funny, it kind of sounded like a nerdy teenager in an angsty voice.
Either way, everyone pissed themselves. Ruined the carefully-built mood perfectly.
Are they usually that quiet, or was it scaled down for such a small venue? I had to pop my earplugs out to hear anything.
You are joking right? I had my ER20s lodged in the whole time, didn't dare remove them.
I was a little disappointed, after all I'd heard about them. I was right in the middle, so equidistant from all the speakers, so that might have something to do with it.
But really; I'm sure I've been at louder gigs. My ears didn't ring afterwards at all, and my hearing barely dipped.
I guess the lack of ringing is due to it being mostly bass so not really destroying your ears as much as some trebly stuff. Have not actually checked this. And the room they're in seems to make a lot of difference. I saw them in Manchester with the cabs all on the floor (ie not piled up) and it was really quiet and disappointing. Then in Leeds it was really loud and oppressive.
