anyone else love this band yet? i cant believe no one on here has talked about them yet.
Just as a JAGgy fyi: They're on tour at the moment: www.myspace.com/actionbeat
Why not come and see them at the George Tavern on the 20th February?
action beat and maths class SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT
cannot wait. I loved Maths Class last time round.
I'll probably be there.
any promoters in Newcastle who could put them on? I'd love to see them live.
And if no one is putting them on, why not organise it yourself? If you can get the bands to make the trip, then promoting in Newcastle is pretty easy if you avoid a clash with another show. There's only a couple of local magazines to spam, there's only a handful of pubs that you need to flyer/poster, and word gets around so fast that the grapevine does half your work for you.
would go on 20th feb but it's corsano-flower/helhesten/chora that night, and that wins it for me!
Go to Ipswich the next day and then you can see Action Beat AND Flower/Corsano duo.
We're putting them on in Bristol on the 24th Feb! See below:
Decorum presents: ACTION BEAT, DON VITO and THE WAILINGEST CATS
Bristol County Sports Club, Bristol
Tuesday 24th February
£4 advance (tickets available from Here Shop and Bristol Ticket Shop), £5 on the door
The next Decorum night looks set to be a fine evening, here's how the bands stack up:
Action Beat (Southern Records) are an intense semi-improvised noise/no-wave punk ensemble from Bletchley, inspired by early Sonic Youth, The EX, Glenn Branca and other avant guitar ensembles. Based a core of five musicians, but often expanding to as many as fourteen for live shows, a normal gig will have at least three guitarists, a bassist and between one to four drummers, with some shows including saxophone, trumpet and violin. In the wrong hands, such overly-enthusiastic stage overpopulation can lead to muddy indifference - Action Beat, however, concentrate their excess into focused, yet ragged, grooves punctuated by bursts of screeching avant-punk noise and evil disco rhythms. Their blistering live shows are a riot of urgent punk energy and frequently descend into chaos (and sometimes semi-nakedness), so its not surprising that they’ve gained much recognition in the UK and Europe - sharing stages with Do Make Say Think, Dälek, Oxes, ZU, Usaisamonster and Bilge Pump.
Don Vito are a frantic, noisy punk rock 3-piece from Leipzig, Germany. Nasty, quirky and very imaginative, they come armed with a tightly wound live sound that’s been honed by relentless touring in mainland Europe. Like Action Beat, they also know how to write a coruscating guitar groove, but they choose to punctuate theirs with stuttering math-rock stabs and off-kilter gang yelps. It’s their first tour of our fair shores, so be sure to give them a decorous welcome.
THE WAILINGEST CATS
"The Wailingest Cats live in the rising smoke from a cigarette parked under the rods of a Selmer Mark IV during a saxophone solo. They ride a fingersnap on the offbeat. They clap only in triplets. They have a great ear and a great eye and a greater instinct. They have an understated state of grace that doesn’t necessarily wish the world well. They’re here to gas the populace, Jack."

They we're really good. Wish they'd played for a little bit longer though. Don Vito were immense as well.
action beat were pretty great though. drenched in sweat!
about Action Beat. they are gerat! the album is really good too. it's not 4 massive slabs of improv trance liek I was expectibng, it's a bit more tightly focussed than that - It is 10 4 minute pop songs instead!
mind blowing band.
uncredible, like a maximal Glenn Branca symphony.
Don Vito were well boss too.
North West folks can catch Action Beat for FREE!
