I really don't get it! I find them completely uninspiring and Roger Daltery is a tw*t.
I have never liked them, and Daltery is a fucking muppet.
really hate them
Whether you like their music or not, context explains everything about The Who's influence, regard and success. It also explains why they now look totally ridiculous.
With the mad rock operas and such. And being the original 'instrument smashers'. Can't say I ever listen to em though
from '65 to '69 they were fucking awesome. punk as fuck, violent rock 'n' rollers....so there.
Three of their singles - My Generation, Can't Explain, and Substitute - should be owned by anyone who thinks they like rock'n'roll. They did a lot of crap as well though.
everything up to tommy is pure solid gold pop rock wonderfulness. they also had probably the second best drummer of all time after bonham. however most people havent actually listened to their early records and just see old annoying paedos playing 'who are you' really badly and think the worst. grow up.
go get yerselves 'the kids are alright' on dvd and educate yourselves.
i nicked it off my mum :)
My favourite scene is when John Entwistle takes all of Daltery's gold and platinum solo records and shoots them out of the sky like clay pigeons.
If you don't like The Who fair enough I guess but to label them "fucking shit" etc is just ludicrous. The list of bands they have influenced over the years speaks volumes.
and still think the who were always shit is beyond me....either a moron or a dad, probably.
aaaaaarrrrrrgggghhhhhh. its like trying to argue with Bush jnr.
they have their moments and some great stand out tracks but a lot of their work doesn't seem to live up to their peers or even their own best stuff
Sorry, that's not a snipe - just genuine disbelief. I'm happy to be proved wrong!
the rock stuff isn't as good but it's still pretty solid - before Paul Rodgers became a BIG ROCK VOICE he sounded fantastic
i'd go as far as to say that on those albums he was better than plant, daltry or jagger
Although every cover of one of those songs done by an american (or british or wherever) garage band shortly afterwards that I've ever heard was better. Which is an odd sort of compliment.
And, whilst I sort of like Tommy as so-bad-it's-sorta-good cinema, the music in it and after it is pretty much unlistenable.
And it is kind of a shame daltrey didn't die before he got old.
Free....i mean, really!
to someone who doesnt like them. it doesn't matter if you don't like them. its all irrelevant bullshit. this post is pointless. sorry. life is an illusion and nothing really matters, but the Who were great.
they were loud, they were aggressive, pete made amazing noises on his guitar, the drummer was out of this world, they wrote some awesome toons, their gigs could descend into violence, they did lots of drugs and they dressed snappy...whats not to like.
but one of my all time favourite bands, that i was raised on because my dad and uncle was into them, is Hawkwind who were far more out there, noisy, dangerous and wild than pretty boys like the who could ever hope to be.
they even got themselves thrown out of germany because of the baader meinhof thing ... whats smashing a guitar compared to being considered and genuine terrorist threat by a major european government?
Don't really understand - what's not to love?
Despised them, in fact. Tommy = wtf?
But I don't really like The Who at all.
Kim Wilde and Dennis from EastEnders were in it.
of the supposedly great 60s bands. i've found their popularity baffling as long as i can remember. 'violent' someone said up there in their defence? what the fuck...
but not as good as the who though.
they were violent.....riots, cherry bombs, gear trashed
'Who's Next' 'Quadrophenia' 'Who Sell Out' 'Live At Leeds' - brilliant stuff. Go swallow a crate of Razorlight CD's you fuckwit haters!
When they were good, they were brilliant. Who's Next, Live at Leeds, Tommy...and then the earlier mod-ish stuff.
