it looks pretty neat
the gurners are a nice touch too.
I saw him at Oxegen last summer. Very very odd, but good. I did get a little bored at times though. As for the gurners 'nice touch' wouldn't be the phrase I would used, disturbing and weird but very fitting to the set. I felt I had to concentrate on the whole thing, if you get me. But I had always wanted to see him live and I'm glad I did.
and once at Reading Festival whatever year it was that he headlined the second largest tent (whatever that's called). Both times it was utterly fantastic. Transcendent, even. And I hadn't taken any drugs either.
It started with an Aphex style (singing and everything) version of 'The Final Countdown' that I would really like to hear again. I don't think I got through the whole set though because back then I was hoping for something really crazy and not just stuff you could dance to. And at the Portishead ATP he was great both times too. Well the first time when I was dancing anyway, the second time we were at the back and my friend was pointing out his bad beat matching which was a bit annoying. And those bad dancers w/rephlex t-shirts were there. And he played Whitehouse & the Grandstand theme
i loved it when it descended into dance frenzy but some people just stood there seriously, arms crossed, geting bumped about awkwardly
but really couldn't get into it at ATP.
i'd have to see him when i'm in the mood to dance really. Not that i ever think i will see him, but yeah.
The youtube footage from coachella is great.
he was good at that ATP. Especially enjoyed the Grandstand breakdown halfway through.
until someone came up to a mate and had a go at him for not dancing enough, so we decided to sack it off.
at Barrowlands as part of the Triptych festival it was good but i ended up a bit mashed and cant remember the end of the night. So would go again if he was playing.
who insists aphex twin ruined his 25th birthday by wrecking the dj decks with sandpaper vinyls "just because we bottled him for playing techno in a jungle club!"
Not sure I believe him, but it sounds fitting with other stories I have heard about Aphex Twin.
there's a bit in Sound Of The Suburbs when John Peel visits Oxford and there's a couple of people playing stuff like biscuits of the turntable. At one point they decide it's not rotating fast enough and strap a firework rocket to the slipmat.
It was amazing. I was quite wasted but I vaguely remember him playing a coherent set. Which was nice.
being FULL of hardware at Leeds 2002, and his head occasionally popping up. t'was absoulutely amazing.
didn't like it, a metallic drone without a beat. went to another room after a while. basement jaxx were wicked that night.
at barcelona airport 2003, there was someone standing with a business placard saying 'aphex twin', found that funny for some reason.
