Just putting it out there.
Appropiate end to this chapter?
i quite like the album but i'm not sure i should! I guess i'm just a fan of depressing music
a lot of work to be done, once the hype dies down we'll see how they get on
I think they're shite. How long is this going to go on? First interpol, then editors now this. Give up on that billy idol in a depressing gothic church thing already.
but its too joy division for me
I'm not a major fan, but they are nice enough, it's well done for what it is, inoffensive slightly 'stadium' indie pop. I wouldn't listen to them religiously, but if they came on the radio or whatever, I certainly wouldn't turn it off.
They do make me want to go and listen to Joy Division though.
u dont deserve to hav fucking ears... go and puncture your eardrums with knitting needles ....
The next time someone fucking compares Interpol or White Lies to Joy Division I will come to your house and pull stupid ass Carlos D bass poses in your living room and then burn all your Hoosier LPs. Comparing Interpol to Joy Division is just lazy fucking journalism, Interpol has two guitars, much more reverb, complete different drums, completely different bass and a singer that can in fact sing. White Lies have infact lifted bass lines from Joy Division and the odd drum beat but Harry McVeigh blatanly sounds much more like Ian McCullough than other said Ian. And fuck the hype, I've saw White Lies 3 times last year when there was no hype and they were rather good actually.
for a long time, it's just reached fever pitch because it's album time, though from all the reviews i've read so far it seems like it's getting serious media bukkake. anyone found critical sympathisers for them?
i appreciate your choice of words. good show.
I spose it's the Chameleons intit. From what I've heard loads of these supposed Joy Division bands sound quite a lot like the chameleons. That White Lies single does remind me of Billy Idol too. Haha. I think maybe they get the Joy Division comparisons cos it's all so fucking earnest and serious. Not into it myself (any of these types Interpol, editors, white lies. Think the National are about the best of this ilk (cue outrage for lumping these bands together) but they're still a bit serious for me. I don't really believe it.
John Cardiel are you? I hear hes back on his board though!
would be so much more interesting and exiting than talking about these gimpy chancers... his section in sight unseen makes me jizz
these bands do sound more similiar to them than joy division.Paul banks sounds a great deal like the chameleons singer.
Their music and stance seems mere pose. Their morbidity rings false. They have lifted lines from people wholesale, which shows a lack of imagination - even the self-admitted lifter that was Kurdt Cobain altered sources of inspiration and made then into something other. Also the lyrics are woefully teenage and undeveloped.
whenever I hear Eighties by Killing Joke!
Its all way too over produced to sound like Joy Division to me. I just don't relate the two bands simply because of debatably similar vocals. Much, much more to it for me.
I hope they're not just hype and they become a truly great band. Death is defiantly a TUNE though...
or are you above the low level indie snobishness and just dont like them?
they're gurd :)
and i'm pretty sure that if they had more "indie credentials" a lot of people on here would like them too.
...and before some of them were even born. Now they've just sold out."
I honestly think people that like this sort of music must be very boring.
they are to the Bunnymen what Editors are to Joy Division
