I don't like the sound of him quitting music :(
Maybe a break will be good?
Ive not got the last couple of albums
I saw them (both adams and the cardinals) recently, and the chemistry on satge was beautiful. Especially with Brad Pemberton.
maybe he'll do some solo stuff and go back to them in a bit?
However, the usual routine with RA and news headlines is:
Ryan says he is definitely BLANK
[two weeks pass]
Ryan has decided not to BLANK after all
perhaps he'll so another solo record.. but that book sounds interesting..
3 or 4 years off would do him the world of good. Let people catch up and miss him etc. Still stinky news as he was the best I have ever seen him back in October.
Along with a great quote - "i am a punch-line and a footnote in what is worse to yell at someone besides 'free-bird'. i mean, i lost."
This Ryan though he's got too many songs in him to stay away for long.
And won't be doing an album for a while.
and realised the only year he didn't released an album was 2006. Maybe he needs the break?
It sounds a bit longer than that.
THIS IS THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN EVER!
I'm so so happy about this. Seriously fucking CHUFFEd.
RA is my favourite songwriter ever, he's released a ridiculous amount of great music in a short space of time and probably deserves a break. Cardinolgy wasn't upto his usual standards, but there are still flashes of brilliance - Hopefully he'll come back more sorted out, and with a killer album, because as someone above said, the guy definitely has a ton more great songs in him.
Ok - thats not really true:) Heartbreaker - great record. Really great. Album me and my wife took on honeymoon (a tad odd I know). Gold - aside from a few tunes - its all a bit meh, turgid classic rock by numbers. Horrible 'first album for a major' syndrome. To me everything since - his entire 'career' has been a total disaster. Bigger crowds and more plaudits maybe (off an on) but one dumb turn after another and he's written himself into a corner. Biggest musical dissapointment of the decade and jesus there's been a few of those.
Saw him play the Borderline on the Heartbreaker tour Autumn 2000 - legendary show. 6 months later and he acted like a prima dona at the Hammersmith Lyric and it was - oh dear the dudes believing his own press. He needs to hook up with Gilian Welch and Dave Rawlings again - but not before they've made another record. So - er - yeah! Quit music - see if I care! Sorry:)
