Where to start?
My personal favourites are Grotesque, Pervrted by Language, This Nation's Saving Grace or Live at the Witch Trials.
Bend Sinister, Room to Live, Slates, Extricate, Weird and Wonderful World, and Hex Enduction Hour are also excellent.
If I had to pick one it would be Grotesque.
Avoid starting with a "Best of". Their sound can be wildy different from one album to the next and this doesn't always come across well on compilations that span a period of time.
You've got a long and pleasuarable road ahead of you
but i've not heard any of the stuff between exricate and reformarion.
The first Fall album i heard was Bend Sinister which isn't one of the best, but i kept listening anyway. I don't think it matters too much. Maybe listen to Hex Induction Hour to see if you like it then get a hold of as much as possible.
The purest essence of the Fall, distilled into six tracks of genius and joy.
and you have many hours to kill then the Peel Sessions box set.
If you live in the real world then Grotesque, Hex Enduction or Perverted by Language are all good places to start.
The 50,000 Fans comp is a good starting place as well, about the only decent Fall compilation about.
Live at the witch trials as well of course
but i'd argue a little too intimidating and possibly expensive for an introduction.
You'll enjoy it more when you know the songs
back living in ghetto from hell and that I'd joined The Fall
as you were
Your dream is quite likely to come true.
wish I had read this before posting
Going for Grotesque (£2.99 Play.com, cant go wrong) and work it up from there. Slightly annoyed that when you search for The Fall the first thing you are greeted with is fucking Fall Out Boy! (no need!).
I think everyone gets a go eventualy
