Where to start/What's essential?
but i love what i've got.
give The Argument a listen, definitely
first two and both utterly essential
In on the Killtaker
though to be honest, they don't have a bad record.
get the Instrument DVD too and prepare to fall in love.
I wasn't impressed at all at first but eventualy I came round to it. I've not thought about going any further in yet but one day I might do.
because i was into metal like sepultura and pantera and that sort of thing when i was about 15 the hardcore i knew about was proper knuckle dragging meat head heavy stuff and that's all i thought there was to the genre. something 'a bit different' might consist of biohazard doing some rapping.
so when i finally got round to checking out the 'legendary' band from the hardcore scene (downloading some songs from napster) i thought they were totally weak. but i kept listening because i was sure that all my favourite bands couldn't be wrong about them so i bought 13 Songs for £3 from a record fair and in no time at all it had taken over my CD player.
until I started reading this site, it wasn't really around when I was growing up. Apart from someone like Beastie Boys or something doing the odd bit.
I didn't get the fuss at first, but I kinda like that they sound like a hardcore punk band playing Joy Division songs now.
I think it's their most diverse piece of work which touches their own punk template but also draws upon plenty of alternative and indie in the process, making for a more initially engaging listen than some of their other albums.
Fugazi were ace. Not amazingly awesome but they consistently released consistently ace albums, for that they probably merit legendary status in my books.
Classic start to an album = Break. First one I heard tho so that might be partly why I love it the most.
This just inspired me to put End Hits on.
So I'll go for that one.
then go back to the start and work forwards again
I just ordered End Hits and Steady Diet Of Nothing on 12"
God, The Argument is so so fucking good, I wish I wasn't at work so I could listen to it very loud right now.
I read a bad review of that once and it coloured my judgement of it, but i gave it mroe goes and it's amongst my faves now.
Another great band who never made a bad lp, red Medicine is my least fave tho.
IMO is Steady Diet of Nothing. Although Reclamation, Latin Roots and Long Division are good songs and worth hearing. I would recommend "In On The Kill Taker" for their most raucous and "Red Medicine" for their most "grown-up" record. Enjoy!!
then get repeater, in on the killtaker and the arguement.
and the others
