Does anyone here live in Leeds?
Anyone going to any good gigs coming up?
I'm moving there this week... need to get some good shit lined up....
on the 15th of February, it should be pretty good:
there are lots coming up
16th - Red Stars Parade Tangora & White Boys for Gay Jesus - Milos
23rd - Gregor Samsa - Brudenell Social Club
30th - God is An Astronaut - Brudenell Social Club
Things in Leeds however:
Sky Larkin 31st Jan
Women 15th Feb
Titus Andronicus 26th Feb
Bronx/Fucked Up/Rolo Tomassi 26th Feb
Whilst Manchester has Animal Collective, of Montreal, Gang Gang Dance, Deerhunter, The Cribs, Franz Ferdinand, and all the exact same gigs Leeds has. Everyone seems to be leaving Leeds off tours these days.
i've only been to two gigs in leeds in the past 3 months,
I find it's actually alot easier to just go to a gig in manchester than it is to leeds (going from York that is) despite being an hour extra on the train it usually costs about the same as you don't ever have to taxi anywhere.
I'll be going across for Chris Corsano/Flower duo at the Brudey on the 16th Feb hopefully.
these guys put on the most amazing gigs in leeds. in december they had zach hill AND dalek together, pretty holy shit right there
It was bloody aweeeeesome.
annoyingly they put on a string of great gigs during term time for me. i seem to remember melvins, porn and big business sometime between me leaving york and getting back. they also put on some great looking techno/dubstep/general idm nights. they know what they're talking about, they're good.
is it a big new place with like two rooms and stuff?
they put pretty much everything on in either brudenell (if its bands) or wire (if its djs)
ruffiage is at wire so I guess they do.
but don't know if I can make it as I think someone staying with me has their flight back home the next day. Fuuuuuck.
women, crystal stilts, titus andronicus, tunng otherwise. there's some good stuff on in the next couple of months.
it's the day I'm travelling up. Now all I ahve to do is persuade my friend to come to this random gig.
I'd seen Sky Larkin/PABH and Rolo Tomassi already but definately going to check some of these out too!! Cheers ;-)
man i am pretty annoying.
BUT FREE CAKE!!! it's almost worth the £1 for parenthetical girls endorsed cake.
and big grey slabs of sponge. like pavement slabs.
if you can't trust zac pennington who can you trust?
at the Brudenell features, bands like Monster Killed By Lazer, Picore, Wonderswan, Action Beat and more.
Glissando and The Amber Sleep are playing at the packhorse on the 30th
16 Jan 2009
The Cardigan Arms
28 Mar 2009 20:00
The Cockpit, LEEDS
thats it for january i think
the shitty limits/mob rules
bilge pump/broken arm
damo suzuki/quack quack
you just missed Calories too, unlucky.
So a while off but that will be great.
ruffiage sessions is looking a bit good this year so far Joker is coming soon aswell in a big two room affair. I need to get to more nights in Leeds!
I've only just started listening to dubstep and the like, is the Martyn night a good night to start off at?
he is one of the top producers around at the moment in my opinion. Leeds is really good for dubstep, Sub Dub at the West Indian Centre has one of the best soundsystems in the country and Ruffiage Sessions get a heck of alot of the top names thruogh, they join forces sometimes too.
and there's one in Leicester, ROCK ON!!! I live in Northamptonshire and it's rubbish for getting to any decent gigs, but that is definitely close enough.
I'm actually planning on moving to Leeds though, do you know when the tickets will go on sale/are likely to sell out?
I got mine before Christmas. Crash records have them (http://crashrecords.co.uk/online/product.php?xProd=6484&xSec=20)
They're still available, support's by Amusement Parks On Fire as well!
but I like maybeshewill aswell and they're playing that Leicester gig. Which one are you going to?
Crash will only have tickets for the Leeds one, you'll have to get one for Leicester from somewhere else I guess. I've only heard a small bit of Maybeshewill on the split 12" with Her Name Is Calla, they sounded good, but not really much like APOF, they're a bit more shoegazey.
considering that I like both bands who made it. I'll listen to a bit of APOF online, if I'm taken by them aswell that Leicester gig is going to be awesome.
Too tired to make a list now, but come and see Ox Scapula at The Packhorse on the 23rd! http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4154766
next month (8th)
at the Brudenell on 30th, that's only a couple of weeks away, eeeek! Excited!
If rock is your thang. I'll be there, anyway.
some good tips on here. I must get meself to some of these.
...but some other people seem to be doing it on this thread, so why not I?
Friday January 30th @ The Library:
This Town Needs Guns
on the 18th Jan @ Royal park cellars
Or Feb 13th Shield Your Eyes, Wasp Display, Holy State & Ocean Bottom Nightmare @ Royal Park Cellars.
Pennines are playing there sometime in Feb I think...
not seen Wintermute since brainwash, they were good.
I have no gigs coming up. I'm happy about this. I don't like them that much these days, and when I did have a couple, I wasn't looking forward to them.
which I'll be @
everyone has stuff to do but i'm sure they'll be back.
depends what kind of stuff you mean...
in April, for example.
i put on some things in sheffield and leeds.... we may be able to offer a sheffield date? rather than leeds. considering i don't live there it's amazing we've got more of a regular thing going...
this gig right. It's the guy from Pavement playing in loads of other bands? I'm not really a Pavement fan but funnily enough my friend might enjoy it more than me (and maybe I'll be surprised myself), I'm in Leeds by about lunchtime on Friday, it all depends on my friend really, but I will ask him.
they do good stuff.
Dirty little pub with a decent selection of Ale, and a fairly decent band room that would be a lot nicer if it wasn't decorated like a rock club.
It's in a good position right inbetween both city centre uni campuses and the outdoor bit's alright too.
thanks people ;-)
on 21st March at the Brudenell
