TV On The Radio.
NICE ONE CHANNEL 4.
you're a prick
and music. SHOCK.
Or, y'know, maybe nobody'll be really bothered.
I'd probably not really be much bothered. So stop crying.
Oh no! *moan groan etc*
if anything it made me like the show
but whoever chooses the music for the program does have great taste. To be honest though the only band that received lashings of exposure thanks to it (or ruined if you like) was The Gossip.
he was a massive prick. good music taste though.
it was about a year ago now.
and he's not a prick. He's just got great taste in music and is championing bands who achieve little commercial success by exposing them on a mainstream television show.
AND they ask for the band/label's permission in all cases (that little thing called copyright), therefore I'm pretty sure TV on the Radio were happy for them to use that song.
is different to the ones that make the actual programme.
Well, it was true of the last series anyway. I don't know what they do the rest of the time, but the Channel 4 trailer people are capable of some really inventive and evocative stuff (the new Great British Food Fight trailer, for example, with Heston on a Segway, is great).
alex: not a prick
Apart from Time To Pretend it was a bit duff
then youi never liked the band in the first place.
I mean what the hell is your logic here? Is the song any different? Obviously, no. Are Skins adverts so ubiquitous you'll hear the song continually? No. If it's in an advert for the show then it'll be a short burst of the song you'll hear for a couple of weeks then they trail it and that'll be it. If it's in the show you can just not watch the show.
I honestly don't understand this thread at all.
personally I'm pleased that a band that I love, is having their music played to advertise a TV program. The more people that get to hear it, the better. Hopefully this will help them reach a wider audience.
And we've also had this thread about a thousand times.
i can understand this thinking. Sorry.
They said in a statement that they were ruined by skin-loving-retards listening to their music. Ruined!!!
stop making this thread, stop participating in this thread, stop thinking the thoughts contained within this thread
people who watch Skins already know who TV On The Radio are. It's not like it's Bad Brains or something and your life will be ROOWINNED
said Animal Collective were the best band on the planet or something to that effect. They used 'Fireworks' on one episode once, I remember fondly.
where a guy recommends what bands he thinks people should listen to, mostly missed the boat grime acts but abe vigoda are on there i think.
and skins is a decent enough program
i'm sure everyone here (apart from thommo) has at one point in their life, perhaps early on, thought that a programme using a song spelled trouble. and in some ways, it does. not being able to see them live without there being a crash barrier in the way being one of them.
i hated it when muse got really big, but then i went along to one of their massive arena shows and had a lot of fun.
this board isn't very understanding sometimes.
I watched it on 4od checking what half the songs where. Last season had PJ Harvey, Low, Blonde Redhead, Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear etc etc...
And i'm pretty sure there where very few skins fan at the low christmas concerts.
"sensible reaction to a foolish statement"
but the guy isnt saying "THE SONGS IN AN ADVERT THAT RUINS THE SONG"
hes saying "THE BAND IS BEING MARKETED AT TWUNTS AND THEIR GIGS WILL BE FULL OF TWUNTS"
which is a) semi accurate (although last time i saw tvotr the audience was already full of utter cunts) and b) not that bad a thing to complain about
you read any thread and there're loads of sneery indieELITE responses to INDIE SCHMINDIE COFFEE TABLE MUSIC and hype bands like animal collective and tvotr or whatever, let alone if someone was to post something positive about proper mainstream like coldplay or whatever.
but then threads like this are made of pretty much the exact same tone (albeit being more obvious) and its pretty much entirely YOU FUCKING MASSIVE ELITIST TWAT, despite pretty much everything else on the boards being all FUCKING MASSIVE ELITIST in a much more indie undercurrent snide and sneery sorta way.
i'm tired and i want to go to bed. give me my bed.
though i still agree with the jist
but don't use the word irony again until you know what it means. and don't back down from what you believe. sigh.
I discovered quite a lot of good indie music (granted, stuff I probably don't still listen to, but enjoyed a lot at the time) from the Teachers soundtrack when I was like 13/14.
I liked the soundtrack for This Life.
essentially only soundtracked by The Darkness?
Ricky Gervais selected much of the music on This Life. His girlfriend produced the series I think.
But the soundtrack in the first few series was fantastic. Plenty of Belle and Sebastian.
I was so disgusted I threw my discbox away
can we collectively move on already.
seems to be influenced by the same stereotypes
I don't even like TV On the Radio and now I'll have to endure tonnes more wankers going on about them. CHEERS
they don't deserve all this hate :(
Funnily enough, I'm listening to Dear Science right now. It's the first time I've been able to get all the way through the album, due to one interruption or another. It's bloody brilliant isn't it? Not that this is news to anyone, but hey.
my album of 2008 (I've probably said this about 50 times but oh well, I don't think you can love something to much).
I'll probably be beating away the "backlash" in a couple of months time, when everyone gets fed up with hearing them.
There She Goes :-(
Wolf Like Me was pretty big on ze indie club scene and was a floor filler, just because its on an ad doesnt mean SHIT!
on Hollyoaks. That was funny.
They used Blonde Redhead on a Skins advert that was used loads. Didn't see them getting any dangerously mainstream coverage. TV on The Radio are fucking well "mainstream" now anyway. Cover of the guardian guide only last week. Get over yourself
i mean, they played black vomit by wolf eyes and i havn't seen them on T4 recently. Get over yourself
oh no, it's the end of the world etc.
doesn't mean i dislike it now.
What do you expect?
Besides, it's lucrative money for them and means they'll be able to afford to carry on making music.
