i already really love X and Sonic Youth, any other reccomendations?
Circle Takes the Square
Blood Brothers were both boys no? I know they didn't always sound that male
immense, truly immense.
bring on ritual of names! (please this year)
for Ritual of Names.
I would've sent it to them as an e-petition!
I NEED more CTTS!
yes, I promise they're both human.
and very male.
do a little boy / girl vocal thing they are brilliant.
yes blood brothers were two guys! haha
Johnny Foreigner obv.!
Yo La Tengo
delgado's as far as i'm concerned.
"thirteen gliding principles" is a pretty good example
Blood Red Shoes
The Shortwave Set
is exactly what i would have said.
Love all these bands...
and including JoFo
i really like yo la tengo and ctts, anyone know any more new wave/punkish examples?
new wave post punk from portland, oregon.
not so much alternating as screaming their own lyrics on top of each other at top volume...
do this very well
of course! low! You know how you never see the obvious answer?
I was surprised they weren't already mentioned. First band that came to mind for me. No one can harmonise as well as Alan and Mimi.
Sonic Youth would have been my number 2. Not for harmony though.
As were the EPs. Never got the second one.
Mates Of State are ace too.
but sometimes it's difficult to tell which is singing
Hey is probably their best one partly because of that.
I do agree with X and Sonic Youth.
i wish frank had let kim sing more often on pixies tracks, i find the breeders a little hit and miss.
they split up, isn't it.
Frank was being really childish about Kim singing 'Gigantic', and his subsequent loss of attention for a few minutes.
Yo La Tengo
Let's face it, its a winning combination.
low, bss, yo la tengo, mbv, pixies
i'm sure the man sings on some of the songs
haven't been mentioned yet
I didn't think I'd be the first to mention The Postal Service.
but you beat me
I use to play them all the time and I haven't in about a year now.
how much i love music with these male/female thing going on
loads of good suggestions here as well
and the Brunettes
Cyann & Ben.
Broken Social Scene
IT's only got two songs so far but it is collaborative, so head over there and add your own.
Jesus Christ - the list keeps growing in front of my eyes, good work people!
we've already got Lydia Lunch guesting on a Sonic Youth Track
If you did, good call.
Think I'll change that Pixies track to one with more obvious male-female vocals, actually.
The Beautiful South
I'd think Trouble Books
are probably my favourite, i've most definitly forgotten hundreds more.
you should sort it out
and i've put in a request as a label, see what happens i suppose.
I can see this application taking over DiS completely and becoming the tool we use to get into new stuff, it would make sense to be onboard.
Poor show :p
to atone for this, can't believe i forgot them yesterday.
will check out The Prids
not that any of you people would remember this awesome band
so i'll say it. "D in Detroit" takes me right back to high school, but in a surprisingly good way.
'The Secret' and 'Strayed' are two of the best pop songs ever.
They both have wonderful voices.
were/are ok. I quite liked The Repulsion Box, think that might have been their debut. Not heard much of them since
Check out "The Return Of..." album for a stripped down, less poppy WEEZER whilst donning various examples of beautiful exchanges of harmonious vocal joy. Check out... THE RENTALS. Matt Sharp is dead good. ;)
I got bored and thought of some other good girly/boy-e bands I like:
Apples In Stereo
Hah! I'd probably have more fun dying.
Belle & Sebastian
make me want to unbutton my trousers
As do the Indelicates
don't now much about them but can't get enough of the new (possibly first?) single Crystalised
Crystalized is amazing and they are bloody good live. At both great escape and Loop this year.
Here's some local Glasgow bands who do it well
The French Wives
Be a Familiar
Make Model (rip)
Brother Louis Collective
Incrediboy & The Forget Me Nots
Zoey Van Goey
Bearsuit yet? they're royalty at this :)
Also see Scarce, Verbena, Silversun Pickups, Swirlies...
