Some are great....some not so great. What are your favourites? I'll start:
J Mascis Sig!
Doug Martsch must have a signature line somewhere surely. If not, the world is wrong.
Lefty version not available though :(
What about that purple sparkle?
And just to add to the discussion, if you're making your own music would you want to use a signature guitar anyway?
Signature instruments won't automatically make you sound exactly like the artist, you know. They're just guitars. And in a lot of cases, it's the distinctive look that makes it 'signature' as much as the sound - like the Zakk Wylde LPs for instance.
My signature bass is well pimp: http://www.status-graphite.com/status/carts3/image/basses/stealth62.jpg
it is good but not worth the money unless you really like the finish, compared to the normal japanese ones, as it is a few hundred more and the only really different is the AOM bridge (a mustang bridge would have made more sense as it has the correct radius, dunno how they have dealt with that), the body is made of basswood compared to the traditional alder which is weird as none of J's vintage jazzmasters would be basswood, pre '97 japanese jazzmasters (labelled mij) are basswood are generally considered worse than post 97 (labelled cij)alder ones but I reckon it probably doesn't really make much of a difference, im not sure what pickups are in it fender is a bit vague saying 'specially designed' they sure sound like the standard japanese ones (which are basically strat ones in disguise) they'd need to be changed if you are a jazzmaster purist but they are totally adequate otherwise.
but a friend of mine has the Billy Corgan strat and it sounds fantastic.
