Is this any good? My impression of it is catchy but lightweight *right-now* synth pop, which could go either way...
it's really lightweight indie synth pop that doesn't really go anywhere or do anything. Nice background music but I really can't get into it. They are good DJ's though, grab the spacey disco mix they did a while ago it's floating about online somewhere.
I've tried to get into it but it really does nothing for me.
so you should probably check it out
I quite like it floating around in the background, but nothing particularly grabs me, apart from the uk bonus track at the end. All the other songs pretty much merge into one. Not in a good/clever way, but in a completely non-memorable way. That's not to say the songs aren't enjoyable; they just don't seem particularly special.
I'm gonna give it some more listens though.
In Ghost Colours was one of my fave albums of last year. anything but lightweight!
A massive leap from Bright Like Neon Love, for me. But then I loved that album too
In Ghost Colours was about in... 2004? So it's not like they're jumping on some kind of bandwagon or anything. They are very 'Modular' though
came out in 2008
I think they have always been part of the electro-clash kind of second wave though yeah. I don't think it sounds very right now, it's kind of a bit right anytime in the last 20 years.
That was out in about 2004, wasn't it? It's not like they massively changed direction or anything, they just got a lot better. Also, they ditched the weird obsession with phones that seemed to run through the first album
I'm not sure I heard the first album I may have done I kinda lost interest in that kind of scene by 2004.
is pretty cool, not that great. I put it in my mums car and she really likes it i figure thats because they remind her of human league haha
but I adore this LP.
Read into that what you will.
but is, as you say, lightweight in parts. 'Hearts On Fire' is a cracker though.
but after about 5 listens I was totally hooked.. plus it was released yonks ago in Australia so I've had ages to fall in love with it. If you don't like Cut Copy in Australia, you get trampled to death on dance floors.
maybe start with the second but dont ignore the first
Is a great song..i never really gave the other tracks enough time.
I know some people think it's lightweight and throwaway, and I would agree with a number of albums that are in the electro/synth-pop genre, but it's extremely well crafted and meticulously produced. It swells and shifts tempo with such precision it's hard not to at least admire it as a record.
But i found it seeping into my brain. Enjoy it very much.
New Order in a blender, put back together again by David Byrne and Daft Punk giggling to themselves at the ultimate feel good roadtrip music.
Then double it.
an nme writer?
IGC just snuck into my '08 top ten, but only because it includes my fave song from '07 (So Haunted). I rated IGC over BLNL when the former was first released, but I've come back to preferring the debut. There's just a few too many references (i.e. more than none) to 70s disco on the new album, whereas BLNL is 80s through and through.
that's about how I found them.
tk maxx (where i unfortunatley worked) on a tannoy that also plays michael buble et al. kinda screams MOR to me.
it just seems to meander off in weird directions. But Hearts On Fire and Out There.. are some STRAIGHT UP BANGERRRZZZZ.
