i was in bed and the vivian girls album came on...and it got me thinking....i couldnt imagine a british equivilant....like....an all female band...no high concept...just pretty average, low level meat and potatoes indie stuff...it seems such a strange proposition
so i tried to think of an all female group formed since 2000.....and im not talking real mainstream, manufactured pop...we got plenty of them....and we seem to be down with a solo female artist now days....but they are more often than not backed by an all male band...im just talking about your average indie set up with every member being female
the best i got were
pipettes and ipso facto....who don't really count because of the high concept of each...pipettes are done now anyway, with one gone solo, and ipso facto seem to have come up in the horrors slipstream
death disco died a death and split with a solo act popping out from it
robots in disguise, who i think are probably often supported by backing band with males in it
obviously elctrelane were formed before 2000
and that, my freinds, was all i got.
im sure there must be some glaring omissions....there must be, it can't just be this...
but really....it is quite a sad state of affairs isn't it...that we seem to be lacking some all female, run of the mill indie bands.....
thought?......reasons?....are the reasons obvious?
