Music in the same vein as Avril 14th, Nannou 2, Goon Gumpas etc (not by Richard)?
Music for 18 Musicians
its really minimal and repetative orchestral works and it reminded me of Aphex Twin.
in a big ol' sack marked STEVE HERE@S OUR BALLS!
I have heard bits and bobs of John Cage or at elast I think thats his name it might just be a charecter from street fighter or something. He plays the piano or writes for the piano and its all very pretty.
Yes...the bloke from Street Fighter is his namesake. What a terrific pair.
P.s. Cheers for the heads up......Steve Reich is a brilliant discovery.
I'm just discovering Reich myself I'm going to dig a bit deep soon me thinks.
is so good, I really need to pick up his original soundtrack to blade runner.
Hans Zimmer is pretty damn nice at making soundtracks, I really like his stuff from True Romance.
and repetative nature of it all its definatly there in spirit. Just executed in a diffrent way.
i'm not denying that steve reich's and the general minimalist movement's extensive use of repetition has filtered down in influence to a lot of different parts of current music, but to act like fuck buttons are somehow ripping him off is complete nonsense, or even to say that they owe him in particlar anything
there should be alot more marble exchanging going on between musicians.
I'm sure Fuck Buttons arn't that attached to their marbles.
Now the Pogs.....the Pogs they won't exchange for death nor money.
I just liekd the idea of them giving him marbels in a sack
I like what the buttons do with the repetative loopyness of it all at least some of it anyway.
I think alot of electronic and dance artists take alot of Reich influences nowt wrong with that.
He's pretty good, definitely sits in the lighter end of Aphex Twin spectrum. Mind you, I've only heard a few tracks, but check it out, like.
I like to listen to this when travelling to and from Portsmouth........puts me in a dream state
It's called Insen and is on Raster-noton. Very minimal piano, glitches and clicks.
Only heard a couple of tracks but they're wonderful, very fitting for Winter.
He does do some house-y style music too but try Grinning Cat, The Boy and The Tree and particularly Symbol where he samples beethoven and bach and the like - all very nice indeedly.
I love that song. Absolutely beautiful.
Could be what your after- it's more guitary, I guess.
You can listen to loads of stuff free on his last.fm page
Definately at the alkaline end
