Just got this by 'People under the stairs'.
Highly recommended if you like Ugly Duckling etc...
People Under The Stairs are wicked though they have a propper old skool flow going on. Ugly Duckling are loads of fun to if ya in the mood for it.
It's only £7 on Play and it'll give you a break from all that murk music you love. Tis Christmas!
and merry christmass to ya Ash
Catch ya in '09 for some madness.
I'd go for Cool Kids - Bake Sale as hip hop album of the year, or maybe 808's and heartbreaks although since that's sung is it r&b rather that hip hop?
Did anyone hear Q-Tip's latest? I liked that too. 2008 seems to have been a good year for hip-hop.
is very good but could have been made five years ago, this is the first Kanye album I've really listened to and he does up the stakes on it. Roots Manuva's last one is well worth a spin or two as well and I like the Dan Le Sac Scroobus Pip lp even if it's a bit preachy
I dunno why. S'a bit mad. Will give it a few more goes. And I wanted to like the Common LP, but he seems to be heading the same way as Mos Def and his bloody movie career.
I'd say that might be my favourite album of the year, full stop. Sue me.
Will ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-check it out.
When do we get some new Beastie Boys material?
Madlib - Beat Konducta 5 & 6
Tobacco - Fucked Up Friends
Oh No - Exodus Into Unheard Rhythms
was like 2006 or something. Need to check those new Beat Konducta releases though.
My top 3 hiphop albums of 08 were Q-Tip, Madvillainy 2 and Siah and DaPoed's The Visualz Anthology (a re-issue but still, hardly anyone knew about it before), pure golden-age skills - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=WLq4saY7kQ0
my mistake. i forgot about that madvillain 2 record (although, to me, it feels like something madlib put together in his spare time)
also Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III, obviously.
has 18 songs on at the moment, well worth a listen...
Like the vid of him making a beat. Sounds good!
Black Milk - Tronic
Heltah Skeltah - D.I.R.T.
Madlib - Beat Konducta 5 & 6
K-Def - Beats From the 90s
eMC - The Show
had high hopes for Reks' Grey Hairs LP and Ode to the Ghetto by Guilty Simpson, but both were mediocre. I don't think it's been a particularly strong year for hip-hop to be honest.
i've heard mixed things.
the production was awful, embarrassingly dated.
2. Lil Wayne "Tha Carter III"
3. Jean Grae "Jeanius"
4. Vast Aire "Deuces Wild"
5. The Roots "Rising Down"
Also the Siah/Yeshua anthology and the Ghostface greatest hits and rarities disc - you cant beat a remix of Be Easy feat. Ice Cube or Ghostface X-mas...
1. The Roots - Rising Down
2. Black Milk - Tronic
3. Wale – The Mixtape About Nothing
4. Bun B - II Trill
5. Lil Wayne - Carter 3
Fun DMC probably somewhere in the next 5. Cool kids and Elzhi all good too.
II Trill was fairly disappointing sadly (aside from a few bangers), and Tha Carter III is largely pretty shit too. I can't think of anything else good right now..maybe there wasn't anything
esham - sacrificial lambz
rich boy - bigger than the mayor
killer mike - pledge allegiance to the grind II
g-side - starshipz and rocketz
gucci mane - gangsta grillz the movie
lil boosie - da beginning
i also kind of liked the luda album
