he's very polite. he's slept in my room. we had fried eggs on toast, it was nice.
we're allowed to rip on bono all the time and he's a musician
not the same
if you're going to put yourself out there then you're as legitimate target for criticism and mickey-taking as anyone else
but that doesn't make it right, does it?
and think "no, i won't be entering that", and then at some point later i look at the reply counter and there's 300 replies
my threads never end up like that.
this one will buck the trend.
an embarrassment for all concerned
about £25, I'd say.
stop saying things.
you're not mates with him?
or i wouldn't really pay attention?
and the latter - it's just the vibe i get from you.
i actually a nice bloke, like that luke leighfield fella seems to be.
however, be careful letting strange men sleep in your room.
well done for starting another Luke Leighfield thread! :D
LEIGHFIELD IN SEX SCANDAL
he was a very nice man.
That is all.
i want 235 replies to this when i come back agreeing that you're all wrong and i'm right or i'm not going to be happy.
good night everybody!
not because i'm friends with the lad, simply because it's pretty insane to try and get someone to feel shit about themselves when they haven't done anything to deserve it (his music included).
He made a point of posting on his blog that he disliked me, before it all kicked off.
but surely it didn't go quite this far?
This thread is about he internet phenomenon known as 'Luke Leighfield'.
You and I have no beef and have conversed before on a different website on good terms, so don't start on me for disagreeing with an attack on someone none of you actually know.
Also, I read your post as you WERE friends with him but that wasn't why you were defending him.
Meh, whatever. QI is on.
he may not of started the original thread but it is his comments that really set things off, I think anyone with that kind of attitude no matter who they are dis would try and bring down a peg or two
but look, you're a decent enough guy and i've had the urge in the past to write some snide stuff in relation to his music (which isn't my sort of thing at all), but I just don't see where this is going to get anyone, you must see where i'm coming from?
I can only defend what I post, and what I post is all in good humour, and with no maliciousness intended. I'd hate to think I'd made anyone feel like shit, to be honest. And let's be honest, although LL has posted some foolish comments back on these threads, he has taken it a lot more gracefully than many people would.
I think 90% of what's been posted is pretty harmless (random photos, opinions on his music, comments on the whole fanclub thing etc).
The other 10% I don't like (see: gay jokes, mental health jokes, some of the more personal comments, posting photos of someone who has been hanged).
He mentioned in his blog that Chinese people prefer getting their music illegally, and in an interview he said that a Russian promoter put his songs online and thousands of Russian fans downloaded his songs.
What I want to know is this:
Who would win in a fight between Luke Leighfield and his Russian and Chinese fans?
There's only one way to find out...
I agree with you, humour is different from personal comments and I guess LL has also got personal in his retorts..
Admittedly my statement is a blanket statement (not to mention a tongue in cheek one) but it's clearly aimed predominantly at my UK 'fan base'. For a start, most of the Chinese and Russian people who check out my myspace won't understand it because their grasp of English isn't as good as Germans / Spanish etc. Also, you can't buy my music legally easily in those countries. On the occasions when I have posted merch to Russia it has been stolen by the postal workers before it reaches its destination (I've tried it numerous times so this isn't an unsubstantiated comment) and in China pretty much all CDs are dodgy copied things sold on street corners. My CD, with the rate of Yuan to £ sterling would be silly expensive for them to buy, like triple the price they normally spend on CDs, not to mention the fact that they'd have to understand all the English on my website to buy one, and have paypal too. Essentially, my comment is aimed at spoilt English kids who have lots of money but still won't spend it supporting their favourite underground artists - not just me, but any bands trying to scrape together a meagre living, or gather the funds needed to make that next recording, or get to the gig four hours away. I always support my friends' bands, and other small bands, by buying their CDs, and I hope it's something that everyone will get behind at this time when illegal downloading is threatening to damage emerging artists.
if his music is awful? This is a music forum for fucks sake, and he makes awful music.
but it'll do. sort your lives out folks. i'm eating cheese on toast and it's fucking incredible.
Luke wouldn't approve.
in my boxers. the crumbs are in my belly button.
I'm going to stop being po faced.
You are the barometer! XXX
All I know is this: two wrongs don't make a right. So if anyone reading this thinks that anything they've written is nasty, the fact that "someone else started it" is not a defence. Sorry to sound like a hippy and that, but there's something to be said for being nice.
The fact is that he and his manager are using the DiS messageboards solely as a tool for marketing him. This isn't him posting a thread saying, "Hey guys, I'm trying to do a cut-price tour of China and wherever. Last night I had live eels and watched some poor bastard's human rights violated while I could do nothing to help him," in the social board.
It's a calculated attempt to get fame and noteriety without stopping for a moment to consider the consequences of his actions nor the field into which he is attempting to get this fame and noteriety. People will leave him alone when he and his manager stop posting in that thread and leave it alone.
Once people realised that he reads DiS they had every reason to stop with that I think.
But on the other hand, not everything that's been posted is personal attacks. Criticising his music is obviously fair game. And people were within their rights to hijack the tour blog thread. To be honest I'm not sure what they expected from using a massive indie music site, renowned for its alternative tastes and cynical forum community. Like others have said, even minimal research would have revealed that people on here don't take kindly to that kind of thing. Of course, that doesn't make it right, but it does make it difficult to have much sympathy.
And I don't buy that "any publicity is good publicity" when it comes to unknown artists. On DiS - probably the biggest / most influential site of its kind in the UK - the Luke Leighfield name will now always be associated with these threads and him slagging off the site (again, whether rightly or wrongly). Obviously he and his manager are entitled defend themselves, but I'm honestly not sure what good it's done them. And it does kind of undermines them saying that they're not bothered by the bad publicity (which this undoubtedly is now).
