Reactions to amazon selling cheap mp3 albums

thatswhatshesaid [Edit] [Delete] 5 replies 00:09, 20 December '08

is this a good thing? a lot of new stuff on there for £3, is it a way to boost chart positions? is it part of the reason that take that are close to beating the record for the shortest time in which to sell a million albums?

there isn't a great deal of good stuff on there for very cheap yet, although the newest tv on the radio and nick cave albums are £3 apiece, and the justice album is £2.98. does such a low price devalue the music?

i think its a step in the right direction, i still buy most of my music on cd, but quite like the idea of downloading a best of by a band i don't know much about as a precursor to checking out full albums.

  • I think...

it will get the more casual music fan into some variied stuff that they maybe wouldn't have bothered thinking about getting before.

More of your music geeks are likley to continue getting CD's, high quality mp3's and viynal like they always have.

It kind of de-values the music but then something really needs to happen to stop so many people just stealing it anyway. So if you can gain some fans and respect thruopgh selling it kinda cheap in some places then it might have a little impact on teh problem, plus give the artists at least a little cash.

    or

    I have no idea...

  • itunes have already dropped the price of some albums since amazon started

so hopefully it will just mean that the average price of an album will come down to around £5 or £6, which i think is about fair.

  • how will this work for smaller releases?

won't it just mean that small indie labels will lose out?

    • I doubt they will be sold like this

it will only be fairly major stuff that will get sold for these really low prices. The small indiependant labels will keep doing there own thing I guess.
