Looking forward to seeing tomorrow's
but it’s a solid list.
I think that album is a bit weak. I'm always disappointed by her albums to be honest.
I really should buy that The Bug album.
Fleet Foxes, TV on the Radio and Deerhunter, with one of the latter two at No.1.
Good to see Frightened Rabbit, Nick Cave and Los Campesinos so far.
5. Cut Copy
4. Fleet Foxes
3. TV on the Radio
1. Deerhunter – Microcastle / Weird Era Cont.
2. TV On The Radio – Dear Science
3. No Age - Nouns
4. Hercules And Love Affair – Hercules And Love Affair
5. Fleet Foxes – Fleet Foxes
6. DJ Rupture - Uproot
7. Fucked Up – The Chemistry Of Common Life
8. Vampire Weekend – Vampire Weekend
9. Cut Copy – In Ghost Colours
10. Portishead – Third
dont know why theyd be releasing that info before pitchfork itself, but there it is.
They just put it in order of the score in the review.
5. No Age
4. Fleet Foxes
3. TV on the Radio
solid list so far, i thought flying lotus would probably be a little higher up though, no complaints.
Marnie Stern too. Terrific album.
Nice to see Devotion make it - it's a lovely record. I was surprised that neither Dept of Eagles or Dodos made the 50 though.
It's gotta be surely? I'm still holding out hope for Cadence Weapon, as I've said in every other thread, but it's not gonna happen.
to Fuck Buttons in their top ten.
the pitchfork's top list is so fxxking boring in this few years......
but Why? and Harvey Milk are too obscure? Fuck off.
for being too obscure?
"We're kicking off our annual list of the best albums of the year with something a little different-- a look at 20 records that came close to making the cut. Each of these albums made a strong run at our top 50, but they are neither records #51-70 nor our editors' choices for the next 20 best; rather, they're albums that for a variety of reasons-- including, but not limited to, the genre in which they work, a lack of widespread distribution, the relative lack of chatter they inspired this year (including in our pages, in some cases)-- don't tend to show up in year-end lists from large music publications. Granted, to ravenous indie fans these are well-known records but in the context of the slightly wider (read: non-internet) world, they are still mostly outliers and curiosities-- and ones that deserve a bit more praise."
There's no way any of that applies to Why? and Harvey Milk but *doesn't* apply to Ponytail and Max Tundra.
This is 50-26. HM will place in the mid teens.
They've already had Harvey Milk in their 'honorable mentions'.
it's genius. It better place high in JohnM's poll. Or there'll be hell to pay.
Maybe even a Knife-esque run through to number one. They've been consistently hinting at how much they bum that record all year.
That list is OK, some good records so far, but utterly predictable.
And I think Cut Copy will be at #2 or #3 considering two of the songs off that record were pretty high in the Best Songs list.
Probably TV on the Radio also in the top 3.
riding fairly high up the chart...
It's pretty indie schmindie. TNV and Ponytail are excellent choices! I really don't like Crystal Stilts. They just sound like Glasvegas.
I've really come to love Los Angeles.
Surprised to see it featuring in the top 50 though. Then again, surprised it didn't feature in The Wire's, as it got a pretty glowing write up from them.
cos we's read the rag everyday. Nobody outside the internet indie fanclub has heard of most these bands I'd be willing to bet.
I hate when people just label these lists 'predictable'
also, why is it a problem that it is 'predictable' is it possibly because those records are actually the best of the year, and quite possibly, in that order?
Is far too low, should at least be in the top 25.
before the list came out. Well done by these guys so far, although I really think Los Angeles should be up nearer the top. Also really glad Lykke got into the top 50, they only gave her a 7.8 I think. They finally see the light, like I did at the end of this year. Oh, and Beach House needs to be higher as well. Still good list.
