Can someone recommend me ANY french speaking music thats any good please?
This is after me buying the yelle album =]
I'm not sure if they sing in French, by Cyann and Ben are awesome and certainly have a lot of french chic to them.
Serge Gainsbourg start with the two disc best of, then get the Serge & Bardot - Bonnie & Clyde album also worth getting the I Love Serge remix album. Also Okkervil river covered one of his songs really well. And U.F.O are great but jazz and Mc Solaar did some good french hip hop
If you bump this thread later (when I’m not in the office), I should be able to provide some myspace links and further bands.
I really like serge gainsbourg... and mc solaar is different haha
had on a serge gainsbourg lp at a party a while ago that was pretty great but i can't remember the name. "l'enfant assassin des mouches" by his mate jean-claude vannier isn't a million miles away and there is lots of eccentric funky psychedelic kitsch to enjoy. if you into that sort of thing.
Dominique A (try L'horizon)
Miossec (try 1964)
Benjamin Biolay (try negatif)
Francoiz Breut (anything, she's great)
Alain Bashung (get fantasie militaire)
None of this sounds much like Yelle though... Maybe try Bertrand Burgalat?
twas NLF3, enjoy!
Francoise Hardy - sexy 60s pop
France Gall - sort of 'bubblegum pop' but with real tunes thanks to Serge Gainsbourg
Mainly because shes smoking hot
I'm listening to Cannabis OST at the moment, it's really good
Also check out
and all of it's sublime.
all of it's french he's a french composer
or are you one of those don't like metal people?
depends on what it is like... I don't really like the cheesy metal...
although I think he's from belgium
are great - go find them on myspace
Her first two albums (Le Fil, and Le Sac des Filles) are in French an dboth recommended, though her newest album album "Music Hole" is probably the best of the three, but is mainly in English.
Le Fil is incredible, not so keen on Le Sac des Filles though.
Also try Amadou & Mariam.
Monade - solo project from Stereolab's lead singer, Lætitia Sadier
Julie Doiron - normally in English, but her album Désormais is sung in (Canadian) French, to great effect
Brigitte Fontaine - avant garde singer who has worked with Sonic Youth, Stereolab and others

he's all you need. The guy is up there with Dylan in my book. His lyrics are amazing, but even if you don't speak French the tunes stand up on their own as they are brilliantly crafted. Honestly, he's better than whatever it is you're listening to right now, I guarantee it.
Aside of him, there is an EMI compilation called La Belle Epoque which is a nice overview of the girl groups of the 1960s.
On a final note, Noir Desir and Louise Attaque are bother utter, utter shit.
