Really good list, quite a surprising No.1 and no Focker?!
A lot them seem just to be to reward specific bands without actually being their strongest songs... like Vivian Girls. Well, at least Fleet Foxes didn't win. Even if Hercules & Love Affair are hardly Amanaplan.
Please could you review each track, for those of us unfortunate enough not to have heard them.
last year a torrent appeared that collected all these together. Not that I'm advocating that sort of thing; might prove a nice little taster for getting into some of the bands listed that you've not heard, though..
I'm sure MGMT were on the 2007 list. I've heard hardly any of them, but good call on 'I Couldn't Say It To Your Face' by Arthur Russell. I'd have a hard job just choosing one track from that album.
Also Alphabeat. No. No.
I first heard it when I downloaded all the songs off the 2007 list.
I found myself listening to a load of cheesy chart hip-hop R'n B and loving the ass off of every second.
Shame the rest of the list is pretty crap...American Boy better than Juan Maclean's Happy House? If you say so...
I love all the obscure album tracks they throw in for the cool points too!
they say this about a different band every year and it's always always annoying
props for putting Wiley, Big Boi and Air France in there, all 10/10 bangers.
But that T.I. song with Rihanna...man its beyond terrible
Rolex is in my top 3 songs of this year.
I agree with the no. 1 though
also why is that air france track number 8??? and i think i would have put 'a punk' or 'cape cod kwassa kwassa' instead of 'm79' for the obligatory vampire weekend choice. Apart from that, pretty decent list i guess. Glad to see 'sleeper hold' and 'happy house' in there.
M79 is floss. And floss is boss.
it's not very inspiring this year from pitchfork.
I can't be ased to look again heheh
It's a nice track popy electro funtimes!
has fact magazine heard of crystal castles?
it does have trim on the list though
Courtship Dating should have gone in instead of that track.
but I was baffled at Time to Pretend, which is so good it made their top tracks list for 2007 and 2008!
No Beck though :(
And anyone questioning American Boy? Why would you bother? It's unarguably brilliant.
Was quite fun to go through the list, it jogged my memory on a few occasions.
well, all of the streaming ones anyway
well, all the ones where i'm not sick of seeing the name, or didn't vom up from reading the description, or which didn't look like fey bumholery. Pitchfork sure like fey bumholery, huh? It's been an education
is easily single of the year
but I really don't get the fuss about Hercules & Love Affair at all.
Seventies disco Mehhhhhhhhhh.
