i like whats going on in portsmouth at the moment, still no bands to really make it though.
So many talented new bands , established bands.
Can anyone really argue that there is a better live music scene anywhere in the country?!
There is not one person in the country who has sufficient knowledge of every music scene to make that kind of assessment. Everyone'll either go "my local scene's great" or "mine rubbish" but nobody can say what city has the best local music scene because nobody knows enough to answer it.
Lots of cracking venues of most sizes, a very up for it crowd every night of the the week, some really good bands coming through and it shows not signs of let up.
Of course I am in agreement with theguywithnousername as I can only properly vouch for Glasgow against a few other cities.
Lots of good things going off and it shows no sign of stopping.
Leeds has alot of really ace bands that play really regular in good venues that are pretty cheap. Big acts come thru all the time and also get these bands to play with them meaning the bills are alwasy really strong. Plus there is Sub Dub and Ruffage sessions with maybe the best soundsystem in the country, even the London dubstep lot say so... Plus amazing producers liek Ramadanman and Pangaea have been running there label Hessle Audio and making huge waves in the scene all over the world.
Bristol mainly for its dubstep its just stupid at the moment. Everyother record comes from there.
London just has alot of scene types so alot happens...
Definitely, since moving here 2 years ago I've found more local music that is actually worth listening to than I ever did in Manchester, although living 2 minutes away from the Brudenell obviously helps that.
Sky Larkin, Pulled Apart by Horses, Grammatics, Wintermute - to name just a few who are absolutely awesome.
That must have sprung up out of nowhere in the past 6 months, when i left there was sod all.
Manchester has a wonderful music scene.
i struggle to name more than 4 bands that are worth watching
i'd be inclined to agree with glasgow
all I can htink of is Thomas Tantrum and I'm not sure that they even count.
they split up today
i did not reply there...
i still advise checking out their songs theres also joey nightmare and venice ahoy. thats just to name a few of the bigger ones. there are some good smaller bands but there's a lot of people getting involved with the music scene in portsmouth cajun dance party and towers of london's old manager is promoting and helping out local bands.
i find it hard to believe that cut the blue wire are the ONLY portsmouth based band that you know of.
they're pretty good
they arent that bad, i mean theyre doing well for themselves. not my kinda music though
what band are you in?
Thomas Tantrum are straight outta Soton.
really good and really nice
muthafucka named Tantrum
It's rather fantastic I must say!
No one knows it yet.
is your band lucida bright? are those pictures on your myspace taken at valley studios?
i've never had a problem with venice ahoy, they've always been nice to us, my problem with them is that they're too good.
was named the most musical country the other month. Living here I'm probably supposed to agree, but I don't. People need to get over The Beatles.
Their drummer was HOT ;)
Beyond this point are monsters, these waves, switzerland, alright the captain its all crackin off
Apart from The Strange Death of Liberal England, I don't really know of any others...
...the Portsmouth (well, Southsea...) musical community is pretty good at the mo - compared to what it was anyway....
Lots of other good stuff too...Hold Fast, Loz Bridge and The Box Social, Strange Death, Andrew Foster, Attack! Vipers, Plat du Jour, Dream Baby Dream to name a few....
but no longer. Its not great anymore.
Barry Scott was from Pompey yesterday also. Respec'
Went to the same school as a friend of mine. Obviously not at the same time..
...easily forgotten. Thanks for remembering though!
you get more great bands per square mile for your money
the scene is on fire.
