OH RLY RYAN?
(new one, really quite good)
Since then, I've detested most 'UNKLE' releases which seem to masquerade as an excuse for James Lavelle to play with his new friends in the 'biz. Whether it's to my detriment or nay, I won't be touching this 'classical' record either.
except for that song with the Beastie Boy which is cry.
I dont mind the odd bit from other album's I'm not really fussed about them as a whole though.
Is this new one another of those mixes he does of old material and some film samples and stuff liek that?
And writes 'scores'.
The man is the definition of 'twit'. Even if he did sign Shadow.
yeah he pretty much fell off in 1998 really
...is nice Stars of the Lid/modern composer re-workings of some of the last album's tracks... works really well, honest!
Nah... but I am now playing Psyence Fiction after finding that review... and working on a top ten albums from 1998 piece on the side... Favourites from the year?
but just about every track on there is terrific in isolation.
And if you’re looking for great albums from 1998, then Accelerator by Royal Trux, Like Weather by Leila, Music Has the Right To Children by Boards of Canada were all astounding.
Actually, looking at this list, 1998 was stone cold awesome, wasn’t it?
Really. I liked that album.
well Mr Diver you usualy have your head screwed on with this kinda thing so maybe just maybe I will beleave ya ;)
Massive Attack's Mezzanine and Asian Dub Foundation's debut.
Tasty year for electronica.
Beaucoup Fish by Underworld was 1999
I'm trying to thin kwhat I was playing loads in the last couple of years at school heheh
Damn - I'm so old, I was DJ-ing at the clubs (mama, got whatchaneedyaneedtofeelthe...etc...)
I was only 16 / 17 or something in 1998 palying big beat and basment jaxx records along with some realy old house my step bro gave me. All my mixes sounded like car crashes until I was 18.
I cleared a room at the Q club with 'Free Sat Pal Ram'.
Ahead of my time, bruv...
nice one bruv
I once kept a room nice and empty by playin a Nu-Skool breaks set mixed with techno in a club in Nottingham that was pretty good.
Maybe that was just a rumour it would be called tha but they should have gone with it. :D
learn from the pros x
Though not timeless.
I found watching Krush live now just embarrasing.
when it was a jazz (not jazz) type label was great. The Time Has Come by UNKLE is a masterpiece in downtempo beats
I still play the old Krush records. They sound better with age.
did you ever get the Ronnie Jordan Dj Krush Bad Brothers album? It's very good
Will check it out if you recommend.
just after Ashcroft shuts his whining mouth shut.
Isn't that track 15mins long?!?
I forgot about him. Shadow still uses accapellas from Pysence in his live sets: that's one of them.
Other than 'Blade In The Back' it was so dull. The track with Josh Homme was fucking horrendous.
but 9.8? Possibly only if it had included Ian Brown's vocal take on 'Be There' which they had to release as an EP later for whatever reason that usually involves Ian Brown.
though I still give it the odd spin. That track with Richard Ashcroft is absolute turd though, it seems to go on forever. The Badly Drawn Boy one isn't much better.
That track with Kool G Rap is a definite banger, mind.
GOT YOURSELF CAUGHT IN A MOTHER FUCKING TRADEGY!
Fucking hell, s'the first time I've felt excited for an UNKLE release in a decade. Excellent stuff, nervous, keening guitars, prophetic (synth?) choir vocals and ominous sub-bass rumblings from an underground chasm.
Please sir, can I have some more?
I think they're great and I love the albums, up to End Titles... which was a bit boring.
Everyone seems to say that he is a twat, though I've never really seen any evidence of that, but then I don't really care if he is a twat, he wouldn't be the first great musician to be a bit of a dick. Pitchfork absolutely panned War Stories as well, but that review seemed to be based on what they thought of him rather than the album.
There was a stream of this album up until yesterday and I listened to it once but didnt really think it was that great, though if I'd realised it was out today I'd have probably bought it when I was in town.
that all the other UNKLE albums are disappointing. I quite like the track with Josh Homme. When I went to see UNKLE at Matter I was so disappointed. Really very poor + crap venue.
is really good. Or it was in 1995 or whatever. Didn't like the rest of it so much.
