Favourite things that weren't albums in 2008
Maybe you liked a 7" or a song or a gig or a stupid funny shaped limited edition piece of crap in 2008! Why not write about it and not just make another boring list below?

charlottefield live on valentine's day in cambridge. it wasn't long after the record was released, and it happened that the guy doing the sound at the (short lived) cambridge barfly that night was the same guy who mixed their record. so obviously he made them sound absolutely amazing, and also decided to turn the volume up as loud as the building structure would allow. which is the best way to listen to charlottefield, i'd wager. they were electrifying
also i enjoyed the whole of bestival, because i'd not long finished uni and all my friends were there too. that was pretty amazing
I had my ears syringed.
That's probably the best thing that's happened for me this year.
like
metaphorically syringed or actually syringed?
Actually syringed.
I was almost totally deaf in one ear. Absolutely loads of stuff came out. It was brilliant.
Nice!
and screamo-crunk was invented just in time too. I tried one of those ear candles once. It was RUBBISH
hell yeah
i did exactly the same thing it was AWEEESSOOMMMEE
i ent to see sic alps and in between songs the singer dude kpt saying we ahve a black president there are good times ahead
Do you actually believe there

It's ok
people will probably play music and dance and make lists whatever happens
mount eerie fog movies dvd
I liked the Growing ATP set I downloaded from WFMU
the other day. I'm dilly dallying over King Khan. I don't want to go alone, and I'm dreading work tomorrow.
I haven't heard that Growing one yet.
There's a free live set of theirs on emusic as well.
KK don't strike me as a Sunday night, going to a gig on your own type band.
It's great. It's also perfectly timed for my daily commute.
Yeah, I'm going to give it a miss.
3 support bands will mean it'll be a late one. And I don't think I can manage that.
Noooooo!
:(
You missed a fun gig
King Khan spent a lot of the set in the crowd dancing so I didn't feel too bad being on my own. It was like an hour long version of the toga party scene in Animal House. Was only two support bands.

the phynx!
is probably the best thing i've heard this year. it's taken me a lot longer to get into their new 'beach head' lp but i'm enjoying the whole druggy dub thing at the moment (see pocahaunted). i think my favourite thing about this year is finally getting my parents thirty year old pioneer soundsystem to work properly so that i don't have to use the crappy sub-fisher price piece of shit that i've had to play records on. it makes my walls vibrate on the lowest of volumes. my favourite gigs have were probably comets on fire at the luminaire, acid mothers temple at islington mill with gnod and primordial undermind and a whole host of other crazy crap, the approximately intimate universe tour and orchestre de marcel puissant doing their punk tropicalia jazz thing in a tiny basement room in stoke.
Sun Araw
sound awesome from the little bit that i've heard but they only seem to have LPs available now and my shite moment of 2008 was destroying my turntable (also nicked from my dad). Rubbish!
I think the best band I saw this year were the Meat Puppets. Pajama wearing freaks with musical telepathy. Also seeing Harvey Milk play 'I've Got A Love' was awesome. And four short crazy tapes from this guy

And the Ducktails single
And 'Lazer Beam' by Don Carlos. Still.
Way more stuff than albums
I can only think of one album from this year I really liked.
Water Curses EP
Pretty much the perfect release from my favourite band, blissful.
Darkstar - Need you/Squeeze My Lime
ignited my interest in the ridiculous wealth of fantastic british dance music being released
Starkey - Remix of Lilyliver by Darkstar
Good music
Mujava - Township Funk
Yeah
Eric Copeland - Alien In A Garbage Dump
Most stuff released on Hyperdub
Other things my brain isn't storing
It's not music but
Wall.E
Ha.
Hardcore girls
Ha ha ha.
just one thing really
shit i hit return by mistake
anyways as i was going to say
Juan Maclean - Happy House
no question the best single track i've heard this year, can't help but dance to it
The reformation of both
My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus Lizard
The MBV gig I saw was amazing
It was almost as loud as everyone on here said it was
It was so hot!
Sometimes even too hot for English types. I had about eight ice creams in the couple of hours waiting for the rest of wor chalet to turn up. But yes the two that I went to were extremely good. Last week's was the best one yet!
All the Dubstep 12" I have collected
each one of them brings me so much joy and bass.
this gig with The Mae Shi and JoFo

alot of fun!
MBVMBVMBVMBVMBVMBVMBV
Oh yeah, the new Maps & Atlases EP and Sun Giant were pretty cool as well.
I liked that gig too
I think I prefer it when the people playing with Corsano aren't as horrendously loud so he can play the chimes and stuff. Maybe i'm getting old :( The Rats sound coo
The packaging to Skeletal Lamping
was better than the music contained therein
The Night Marchers playing Scene Report followed by Fisting the Fanbase
at the 100 Club. Best thing ever.
