Looking forward to hearing this. Here's hoping Brendan O'Brian turns the 'Bon Jovi' dial down a notch or two.
"DVD of previously unreleased 1992 Pearl Jam MTV Unplugged performance with 5.1 surround sound audio remix"
THE best Unplugged - in my useless opinion. Absolutely awesome.
Probably worth getting anyway I suppose.
Problem is, if they do all of them I'll want to get all of them.
Vitalogy, Vs and No Code at least.
I've always wanted Vitalogy on Vinyl. This could be a good time to get it.
They should stick the MTV awards performances on it. I think everyone was expecting 'Alive' and they got 'Animal'. They they did 'Rockin in the free world' with Neil Young and the PA gave out...what larks!
they are planning remixes/special editions of all their albums.
..on video somewhere, from a 'Pearl Jam Day' in 93 recorded off Sky presented by the legend that is Paul King! It has a queensryche video on it and everything. It'll be worth buying for the unplugged dvd
Production on 'Ten' is so horridly dated* I can't listen to it.
*see Bon Jovi dial.
... It sounds a bit 'tinny' by modern standards. Mind you I do know what I'll be listening to for the next 45 minutes.
I mean, PINK?!
"We can now afford to do some things with the art, that we couldn't afford to do the first time around"
Should read "Jeff Ament's apparent colour blindness has been fixed and we've gotten rid of the horrible mistake that was the "pink" cover".
and has Wash and Dirty Frank on it... it looked way better than the pink one on the shelf, dunno why they didn't use that as the main artwork.
that Unplugged gig to get a proper release. So happy.
State of Love and m'fing Trust!!
but only for the bonus material - the remixes/alternate versions of the 'Ten' tracks on 'Rearviewmirror' were rubbish. 'Ten' sounds great because it sounds exactly like the band they were at they time. There's no point in trying to remix it so it sounds more like their later material (ie. 'Vitalogy' onwards) because it's completely different music.
I call it Tori Amos Syndrome - you love your kids to bits, but you just can't stop fiddling with their hair.
The songs are strong but the sound they engineered in the studio is really wishy washy. Would be cool to hear it witha bit more bite, i know a guy who worked on the demos with PJ for Ten, he said they were miles better than the album turned out.
Super duper deluxe will prob cost and arm and a leg tho.
If the trakcs sound anything like the Brendan O'Brien remixes found on the Rearviewmirror retrospective, then hopefully new life will be breathed into them, as Ten sounds very dated to the modern standard.
I kind of agree with you sonicmidwife, but then again, this is a 20th anniversary of the band re-release, it would be good to hear what this album sounds like 20 years on into their career.
the problem is that I've loved Ten for so long that I know it back-to-front, every guitar solo and flangey-wah effect and clumsy pan, which makes it very difficult to listen to differing versions. Maybe I just need to let the fuck go, man!
These days, 'Vs' is my favourite Pearl Jam album, most days.
Some awesome songs on there. Funny how Vitology sounds so poor compared to it...
Actually I wonder if the remixes are the same as the Ten remixes on the Rearviewmirror greatest hits album?
No mention of cost either.
But still - I'll definately plump for the DVD edition. I have the acoustic gig somewhere and it's one of my favourites. I love early PJ :-)
best album ever though
just for a decent copy of the Unplugged show.
and the idea that the bon jovi mega production might be toned down is a good one but rebuying something i already know ?
