Thank god. They last one was a atrocity.
I can ignore singles quite easily.
would seem to suggest they're trying to play down what he said. The trouble with Corgan is he wants it both ways - Zeitgeist was shit because it was them trying to write a 90s FM rock record, something they didn't actually ever do in the 90s, but then he goes and pisses off people with this really obtuse 20th anniversary tour, and now all this ranting about being a singles band. He really is a dick, but I still wouldn't be totally shocked if he came up with another good record.
SP used to my favourite band for a good few years when I was a kid. I think billy has developed some kind of dementia.
really isn't that bad, sure it's no Pumpkins in the past but it never was going to be. His voice in Pomp and Circumstances is beautiful, That's My Way is oddly charming and Tarantula is a tune and a half. Even Superchrist was good
'7 Shades of Black' off shitegeist is one of their best songs full stop, he's very capable of writing another siamese dream but in that annoying aphex twin way, I suppose he choses not to.
Though if he dares to bring his shitty two nights of gash tour over here I'll be outside the venue with "you're still not the messiah..." placards
I still havent heard zeitgeist, I am happy to pretend it doesnt exist, should I reconsider?
worth listening to and has some great songs, but inconsistent. You can't deny Corgan's conviction in himself and his songs, in some ways his determination not just to roll out the hits and try to stay fresh is admirable. It's not really working though. It would be interesting if, hyperthetically, he was to write a song like 1979 again, how it would be received. I get the impression the majority of their old crowd has moved on.
is actually an impossibility due to everything that's gone on. He literally couldn't do it - it wouldn't have the same charm or meaning due to things he has said and done since. The song might be technically as good, and even sound as good on the ear, but it wouldn't mean the same thing to anywhere near as many people.
a majority of the old crowd would dismiss it right away
I hate that bastard.
I used to stand up for his nasally drawl, but that was when he was making notch albums. Even Zwan and TheFutureEmbrace have pieces to be loved.
But now? Fuck 'im.
"We found with Zeitgeist that the alternative audience isn't alternative anymore," he said. "They're a pop audience that listens to Nickelback. So doing a 10-minute song, nobody will listen to it."
No, it was shit. That's why.
They're teetering on the edge of destroying their legacy.
