quite curious if anything really special has been given away that i mighta missed
cover of 'Fucking Hostile'
but you missed that!
The Sic Alps and Rainbow Arabia sessions are great.
I'm really looking forward to the Live Music Archive launch.
remix of In Rainbows, Rainydayz Remixes. Fantastic.
although technically it was first given away at the end of December 2007
also that Diplo/Santogold mixtape (although not sure if that one was officially free)
boy better know at their brilliant beeeest
Daytrotter session is pretty special
I've given out to near 600 people so far, and had a great response. Its kind of fuzzy ambient pop. For people who like a tangible product its also on vinyl with lovely hand covers.
very, very good album
I downloaded it for free and, as often with freebies, didn't properly listen to it.
Heard it agin the other day (properly listened to it) and it is fantastic.
Rack & Ruin
To many to mention from them but I will have a go...
_, *&_, Jason The Swamp, Desktop...
Every mix ever on dubstepforum.
My personal fave has to be the wonderful Mr Booth and his Electronic Explorations:
weekly radio show style podcast with special guests each week and its awsome.
Rack & Ruin it really depends what you want they have some quality dreamy indie pop moments and quality experimental strange stuff. I would just go to teh player at the front and see what takes your fancy then dig a bit deeper with the artist you like most.
Electronic Explorations I really like Starkey's show, 2562's show, Pinch's show. I haven't got thru them all yet mind.
Dubstepforum's mix section has alot of ace stuff in it god knows where to start. Pretty much all radio shows are on there along with studio mixes and all sorts.
Flying Lotus remixes Lil Wayne's A Milli into a track he likes to call Robo Tussin. Quality!
I only found them a couple of days ago on Last.fm's Blackout Beach similar artist page (the Carey Mercer/Spencer Krug influence is quite obvious in their music). What caught my attention was their picture: http://icanhaz.com/thewhiskers
Their videos are also pretty awesome, for all sorts of reasons:
not got time to read all the other responses, but:
The Mummers - March of the Dawn
It's still available to download, or least it was early last week. Really great if you like Bjork/Rufus W etc.
I forgot all the Nine Inch Nails albums as well they are both pretty good.
I think this was a DiS Drownload in Jan 08
Banjo Or Freakout's Cold EP
is excellent! http://www.freshdeermeat.com/eatmore.php?id=57
As strong as anything they have released in my book and a real nice suprise to listen to.
NIN were as undercooked as i'd expect from a free album
that was a highlight.
30-odd amazing new bands, demos and weird releases - indie, pop, drone, noise. awesome.

We All Inherit The Moon
someone on here linked to it this year and that's how i found it
free 5 track EP
that was a free download on drownloads, was really nice. I gave that quite a few listens.
