Can originality be calculated?
So I've been doing this music course recently and I'm intrigued by the concept that bands who are good enough could probably write a great song without playing a note. I've never really considered it before, there's always been this over-romanticised notion that when, say, Johnny Marr penned his glorious riffs it was the result of hours of arduous labour, sleepless nights sitting in his bedroom refining every element of every song, tinkling on an acoustic with a huge grin on his face at the end of it all. But anyway, all this got me wondering to what extent the acquisition of musical knowledge can 'lead' to greatness. What do you think?
