for the first time in months.
then decided the only album worthy of following it up was Loveless.
What's The Story (Morning Glory)?
and they're awful.
i prefer isn't anything to loveless, anyhow.
The album has no heart. It's a neat wall of sound, but I don't get the feeling that beyond arranging the noise, there's any passion there.
listen to 'when you sleep' and 'sometimes', theyre like fuzzy little balls of love
That leap into noise at the beginning of 'Sometimes', the dreaminess of 'When You Sleep' and the drunk euphoria of 'When You Sleep' being just a few examples...
Should've been: 'the dreaminess of 'To Here Knows When'
is the kind of album where you have to be in certain moods to listen to it, for example on your own at night, or in a city centre and thats what makes it so perfect, there are certain scenarios where you actually believe the music was designed for it
just release a live version of Loveless with really good production.
"the album flows like a lava stream from one track to another, subsuming everything in a mix into a blissful roar, and pulsing like a lover's body" - god, i love peaches geldof.
and despite the influence it has on many of my favourite albums, I just don't like it.
They do have an interesting sound, though. MGMT has the same issues for me. I like the tracks for the texture of the sound. That's it.
good sweet christ
The comparison was not made for style or quality. It's the outcome. Get it?
No? Give it some time.
For those who say it's just noise, with no substance behind it, you can do worse than listen to the Japancakes cover of it, which amply demonstrates that underneath the wonderful textures are some great melodies trying to get out (and the Japancakes version, while nowhere near as good as the original, is a hell of a lot better than you might expect).
I can't get on with "Soon", though. It's the only track on the album that has dated. It's fine, but its real home is a 90s dance compilation CD.
It's a bit "madchester" sounding now...
