which is their best album?
NB: This is the only Pavement album I've heard. It's bloody good though.
"Brighten the corners" but its really good!!
I really have to be in the mood for them or I end up hating them for a while.
Brighten The Corners is very underrated though, as is Wowee Zowee.
Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain.
But everyone is great.
Every Deluxe Edition is great, every track, all four of them. Every song is good.
I can't wait for the Terror Twilight one so I can complete the set :).
But yeah, Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, personally
1)Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
2)Slanted & Enchanted
3)Brighten the Corners
5)Westing by Musket & Sextant
successful tiger trap ever, phil?
I've got all their albums on the shared network.
I like the production. And I like the ones where he doesn't do the Pixies singer thing with his voice.
But Crooked Rain x 2 is also good and Brighten The Corners too. In fact Infinite Sadface's list is pretty much on the money, although I'd put Westing By Sextant and Musket ahead of Wowee Zowee.
i've tried repeatedly but for some reason have always been unable to fully 'get' slanted & enchanted
saying 'WATERY, DOMESTIC'.
it is good though.
proper album wise, slanted&enchanted.
but I don't have all the albums so it's not an 'informed' opinion.
Wowee Zowee > Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain > Slanted and Enchanted > Terror Twilight > Brighten the Corners
i'm probably the only person in the world that sticks Brighten the Corners at the end of Pavements studio records, but i never got attatched to it for some reason.
Also, WZ isn't just the best Pavement album, it is the best album ever.
But all the others are great, apart from Slanted and Enchanted, which for I've never really warmed to.
After that Terror Twilight is good. Crooked Rain and Slanted & Enchanted don't do much for me, though I naturally really like 'Cut Your Hair'.
though they're all good. Probably my most listened to band ever - always really interesting and all the albums (bar Terror Twilight) stand up very well to many repeated listens. Get the special edition reissues if you can because the b-sides and rarities are the equal of the albums mostly.
On a related note, I read this morning that Cage the Elephant are releasing a cover of 'False Skorpian' as a b-side to their next single.
2. Crooked Rain
3. Slanted & Enchanted
4. Westing by Musket
= 5. Wowee Zowee/Terror Twilight (both a bit rubbish)
I might spend this week listening to the 2CD reissues of the first three albums. I'm not as big on Wowee Zowee as I am on the first two albums, it always felt a little too 'diffuse' or something like that. But the reissues are all terrific value for money.
I just don't understand some people.
Not their best but still has some great stuff on it: Billie, The Hexx, Ann don't Cry.
CR,CR is probably their best but, for me, it often changes depending on which one I've listened to last. Apart from Westing, which is just nonsense.
that really couldnt be bothered.Awful production too.Major Leagues is okay but really it's Pavement by numbers.I tried it again recenty for the first time in a long time and it had actually gotten worse.
All broadly perfect except for Terror Twilight though.
1. Wowee Zowee
2. Slanted and Enchanted
3. Crooked Rain
4. Terror Twilight
5. Brighten The Corners
& i get the reservations about Godrich's production but it's the songs - they are soooo good even though Major Leagues is a weak link & SS doesn't get a look in.
The Hexx is my fave track
