guitar/drum/bass/sometime keyboard combo seem more musical to you?
do people not just post "Remember that band of trustafarian scumbags, what were we thinking? No, really, what?"
Depends if they can play them in an interesting and musical manner.
And I'd say in recent years other instruments like ukeleles, glockenspiels and violins have become every bit as cliched as the ones you mention.
but just on, as you said, a violin or ukelele or accordian suddenly becomes transcedental in certain folk's eyes.
They use 30+ instruments to great effect and they certainly seem more musical, not just a bit of fiddle-de-dee on top.
It does often just seem more musical because of the wide range (eg Patrick Wolf/Anton Newcombe/Arcade Fire plays 20+ instruments but uses pretty standard chord sequences, admittedly it does work, but becuase they play many instruments, people seem to think they're more musically accomplished than they actually are)
I do like bands that use more than the standard "rock" instrumentation, but to use an old cliche 'it aint what you do, its the way you do it'
