I think we can let that one rest now. I'll decide on the National next week.
People who like the first two albums
People who like the first and third albums
People who just like the first album
People who hate Interpol
I think pretty much everyone who does like them agrees on their best album though
now lets see how long we can make an Alligator vs Boxer thread
people can debate
'People who like the first and third albums'?
I can't think of anyone in that camp. Get the impression with Interpol it's just been a question of diminishing returns.
who disliked Antics but liked Our Love to Admire
I never said it was a very big category!
I mean, antics maaan, antics
Alligator, though both are of course great
I like the first two albums. Just so you know
I said they existed!
I just know they wont live up to the glory that was "TOTBL". *cries*
Listen to Antics, its great!
you will be held responsible.
but tails away with a slightly weak ending, whereas TOTBL just totally nails the atmosphere and cogency and mood all the way through from the first moment to the last.
Still, any album with Evil, Take You on a Cruise, Slow Hands, Not Even Jail, C'Mere and Public Pervert on it can't be half bad.
I mean, Antic is great and Our Love to Admire is good, but I thought there was never any contest as to what the best Interpol album was.
I cannot bring myself to say anything nice at all about Our Love To Admire. I even re-sold the tickets to see them live after listening to that album trying to love it. Yes Turn on the Bright lights is an absolute classic but there's so much about Antics that is right up there too.
I adore the first.......and think Antics is great..... Saw them on the Antics tour and they were epic...
I felt really heavily let down by Our Love to Admire. Played it so many times wanting to love it....never happened. Didn't want to see them.
I've lost the faith.
I think we can indeed let that one rest now.
was a huge disappointment after TOTBL, my expectations were lowered... however, OLTA is still far better than Antics. While the atmosphere of the album was no way as magnificent as that of TOTBL, at least it was there, unlike Antics. There is also better structure and fluency as an album, and apart from Mammoth and Heimlich Manouvere, they actually wrote proper Interpol songs rather than a series of shallow and dull singles like many of the songs on Antics sound like. They also stepped up a gear and pushed the envelope a bit with a few songs like Lighthouse. Antics felt like Interpol werent even trying, let alone trying anything new. It sounded stagnant, and has little to reward in terms of listening to as a whole album - unlike TOTBL and OLTA.
TOTBL - an album that will be hailed as a classic still in 2012
Antics - is the oh so cliched failure of a second album that managed to clinch the masses.
And OLTA is the album that is actually rather good, though not a patch on the first and not easy enough for the easily bored antics fans to get.
There. I've said it. I'm fan number 2. Thats my opinion. Someone can now ban request me for saying horrible things and we shall never speak of this again. Actually... it was about this time last year that there were loads of Interpol<Editors<Joy Division threads. There was like one every 2 weeks this time last year. Is it a seasonal thing?
OBVIOUSLY it's all about Turn On The Bright Lights. A truely brilliant album.
Antics is quite good but in a much lower league. So yeah a good album, but nothing in comparison.
And that third album, jesus where did it all go wrong. Unlistenable.
but I would listen to this band play the dictionary, so I don't mind a gradual decline if that's the way it has to be.
I never really got on with 'Antics'. It just didn't have the atmosphere and glacial beauty which made the debut so memorable. 'Our Love To Admire' was definitely a step in the right direction though and, in 'Pioneer To The Falls', had the best Interpol song since 'NYC'.
