Downloaded "world of echo". WOW! Pretty amazing eh? Someone wanna talk at me about him or inform me more or something?
I like him.
he was ridiculously prolific.
he was a classically trained cellist.
buy 'love is overtaking me' which is a collection of country/folk/pop tunes he wrote, y'know...in his spare time.
if it wasn't for him electronic music in it's current form probably wouldn't exist.
That's good going considering he died in 1992.
I bought the new compilation of bits and pieces yesterday. First impressions are that it's pretty different from his other stuff, but still great. His voice really sounds like James Taylor on some of the tracks. I thought the 7/10 on here seemed a bit low...
i was fully aware of his death, thanks. maybe i should have said 30 years.
it tends to be the one people know as it was featured on some ad, download 'a little lost'.
but you can't see the rest of the thread any more where someone posted the full text of the article, if you could then this might have been a helpful reply.
has all the disco classics (go bang etc) but also you get a few mellow ones like 'a little lost'
And Another Thought of course. Not so sure about world of echo, this new one and calling out of context etc. The words 'quality control' spring to mind!
he really was a genius though, I couldn't really label many other musicians that. only 4 or five
It's good isn't it? I'm not sure what to get next, I'm tempted to buy his latest release, whatever that's called.
a couple of weeks ago. I DON'T GET IT
if you can, get hold of 'calling out of context' it's amazing. I think they have it at avalanche.
Anyone seen the documentary 'Wild Combination'? It's pretty good, a great insight into his evolution as a musician and his unique artistic process (recording like a million songs a week in his equipment packed apartment), if a little simpering in its constant praise. Also his parents are totally amazing 'I always told him I never really liked his music, it wasn't something you could tap your feet to'.
Anyways all his records are totally amazing and all really quite different.
it's fucking immense "What it's like" is cunting brill
