Has the internet killed music or exposed us to a world of talent?
I suppose there are two points here in the main:
1) We are now ocmpletely over saturated with everyone and his dog making music which is readily available, more often then not for free. For every great new talent there are thousands of tosh generic, run of the mill (BIMM) bands. This of course means there is less chance of the good wading through the shit and being found.
The ability we all now have to copy and pass on music also means that a lot of people buy less, again damaging the artists.
2)Can this be seen as a good thing? I could today record a little tune I've come up with, get a fairly listenable demo, and then put it online for the world to hear. I've instantly given myself exposure I never could before have had.
But then doesn't point one cancel out point two? What do you guys think?
