Who's going then? I'm IN.
And yes, High Places have been confirmed as the opening band, so get there early.
what should i eat before hand - mash potato and beans and fish fingers or unagi don?
This line up, on my birthday of all days, and I can't get to it.
does anyone know stage times?
finishing at half 11.
everyone is playing full sets
I think we're looking at an 11.30pm finnish x
This is the worst news ever.
That sounds early, if anything, for a UTR show. I hope they've factored in their usual overrun multiplier.
Either way, it's gonna be a late one...
and that it isnt really really expensive
I'm very excited.
And the Cardiff (((grrrls))) show.
And the Manc (((grrrls))) show.
Come buy some merch off me.
Although blasphemously, I may not stay for Mt Eerie- wouldn't mind seeing him again, but I'm there primarily for Parenthetical Girls and as a UTR gig it probably won't be finished until 2am or something stupid.
And I could I guess...
I'm supposed to be cooking for my girlfriend...
i live two minutes away. multiplier times win!
and i believe 60% of dis are also going to this.
due to lame-o housemate pulling out last night. Grrr.
Anyways. PM or post here if you or anyone you know's interested, I'll be getting there for High Places. It's a WeGotTickets thing, £8
otherwise, i'll be fucked.
if it's king's cross, the bus is actually quicker.
Seriously looking forward to seeing Mt.Eerie for the first time - here's also hoping that it finishes before the last tube.
and it's really near Tufnell Park station, so it should be fine.
I guess this make it my fault when everyone's fighting hobos for bench space outside Barnet station at 3.30am
we'll just all crash at guntrip's as he apparently lives only two minutes away.
134 runs 24hrs to camden and the west end, and the 390 runs 24hrs to king's cross and the west end. tufnell park = well connected.
I bought another one just now before coming into this thread..
I might turn up at 22.30
someone should buy my spare ticket, it'll be a great gig
ach i dunno, tell her it's hers if she wants it.
TO BUY. IF SHE WANTS TO BUY IT.
she's having my spare.
THAT MEANS YOU STEEL. YEAH. YOU.
(I need bigger capitals)
"WELL YOU CAN KNARK OFF, INDECISIVE ONE" - that's you
"she's having my spare." - that's sarah, no umming and ahing about buying your MAYBE spare MAYBE not ticket, but instead having the CAST IRON GUARANTEE of my ticket
"THAT MEANS YOU STEEL. YEAH. YOU." - that's talking to sarah, who appears to be lurking
"(I need bigger capitals)" - that's to the board admins, sometimes one size of capitals just isn't enough
Mike's coat's being dry cleaned, too many stains.
it works so well, he gets really angry. Then it gets REALLY fun.
I wasn't even lurking!
I decided I wanted to go still ages ago but didn't communicate this to Zakia who I assumed wasn't going!!!!
I just bought another ticket because instead of dropping me a line YOU got narky you silly bugger!
YOU KNOW THIS
GET A PHREAKING REFUND ON IT OR SOMETHING
I know you've heard of that you big silly.
I thought you had one before I bought mine. Rubbish.
According to my inbox, I bought a ticket at 15.56. If you hadn't faffed around calling Zakia names, we might have been in business buddy.
when I said at 10.31 I had a spare.
it worked out in the end anyway
I might leave after PG though as I'm knackered.
I'd massively advocate seeing Mount Eerie, he can be fantastic. His gig at bush music hall 2 years ago was so special (although apparently he was less good at cafe Oto)
I've seen him before and he's great but I had a heavy weekend and if it's going to be a late one I think I'd probably rather just head home after PG (who I've been waiting to see again for donkeys) - but we'll see. I might perk up.
I'm way looking forward to the PG Manchester show, but ME And HP. Lucky gits.
It just never really caught fire, did it?
but was a bit underwhelmed by mt eerie, perhaps because my expectations were so high, still really liked my burning and in moonlight but the newer stuff was a bit dull
and was worried people would come back and say "OMG THAT WAS THE BEST THING EVAR" and I would have to cry in a corner somewhere.
i also totally love that venue.
the PA was pretty much an embarrassment and the beer they sold was all off. i didn't like the venue much.
i don't think i'm into music that much any more.
i didn't like it.
the place was totally village hall / butlins though, that's what i really liked!
but that smell makes me feel uncomfortable, plus the noise the floor makes make me feel queasy.
i'm sure i heard it panning around the room when i got there. i can't remember where i read that the Smell in LA did that as well but i thought it sounded pretty good.
Phil <3's me
WE'LL BE A HAPPY FAMILY
Damnit, I forgot about him
half of High Places because of the London Overground being a complete nightmare but what I saw was excellent and Parenthetical Girls were fantastic, I almost trembled when they played 'Stolen Children'
Left after that as was too tired.
The Dome is a great live music venue, can't wait for Mika Miko there.
(I hope the Parenthetical Girls come back soon...)
tempted to go to the Brighton gig next Monday.
I liked the venue, it was a little shabby and the lights seemed to have two settings: daylight and midnight, but it’s a decent size and has a fair bit of charm.
High Places were encouraging, but as much as I like Animal Collective and Fuck Buttons, I’m not a big fan of bands that are able to be summarised very simply by the phrase ‘band x meets band y’. They sound like a group that have emerged too early in their development.
Parenthetical Girls were the biggest disappointment. I can handle them on record, but live they push all the anger buttons that the Decemberists and Of Montreal do. The histrionics wound me up a little too much, and for someone trying their best to project a mixture of self-pity and disdain, there was no emotion to which I could connect.
Mt Eerie was the highlight. Not as good as I’ve seen him before, but better than other occasions. I think that his set was spoilt a little bit by the crowd, who seemed disinterested, but it’s a two-way street and he didn’t do too much to forge a bond.
Overall it just never really lifted off, and everything was just too passive. I still enjoyed myself, but perhaps I had built up my expectations too high.
this person says is all true. (mt eerie wasn;t the best i've seen him by any stretch of the imagination btu still head and shoulders above every one else. his vocals were a tad quiet and i don't think the venue suited him at all...)
he played THE BOOM <3 and AS GOOD AS IT GOT and BOTTOMLESS PIT and I KNOW NO ONE, I HOLD NOTHING and WITH MY HANDS OUT (i think), and and and oh it was all good. i LAFF him.
Parenthetical Girls = fuck off.
High Places sounded about 10x better than Friday, Parenthetical Girls were delicate, weirdly theatrical and great fun, but maybe Mt Eerie was a little bit of a letdown after that, due to the electric guitar-only arrangements, even though the new songs are at least as good as the older stuff.
phil has been playing solo electric guitar shows every time ive ever seen him
he played some of his songs on an acoustic guitar after he auctioned off the electric one and he was joined by members of the support band (No Kids).
a year and a half ago?
that was amazing, he played the moon, glow pt 2, felt your shape, maps...
I think High Places need more clarity live or something. It's too hazy for me, I'd like more emphasis on the rhythms, 'Stardust to Sentience' was good.
Parenthetical Girls didn't do much for me. I like the album though. I think I just didn't particularly like the frontman?
Mt Eerie was pretty good. I liked how he controlled his guitar sound and all. And he played 'My Burning'! I like the little curtsey he does to tell you it's the end of the song.
I do really like the Dome. It's like being at a very indie church fete (though with less of a community feel, I imagine - probably because it's too loud). And I still love UTR.
parenthetical girls were the highlight for me. good work UTR.
